Yes and no. Yes, there are things we do right after a breakup, but they're only partly to cope. A lot of it is just a result of us no longer feeling the need to impress anyone.
While women often try to change their look or mix up their routine after a relationship ends, we really like to wallow in a transitional "Bachelor Period." During this time, we revert to our college days, relaxing our routines, probably gaining a few pounds, and really pampering ourselves. A looser hygiene regimen will follow, as will plenty of time with "the crew."
In extreme cases, a guy may even start eating breakfast while peeing with the door open, or watching Footloose on TV at three in the morning while boiling some eggs for a midnight snack. It's strange times.
Eventually, we'll pull ourselves together, get sick of our asshole friends, get back into fighting shape, and give love another shot. Usually by this time our hair has grown out, so we call it "our new look" and go with it.
So you see? We're not so different after all.
I actually did once bleach my hair into a hideous brown/yellow/white mixture and shave off my facial hair after a relationship, but that was more for hiding.
