Mais oui! Very much so.
Bilingualism usually indicates intelligence, and smarts are definitely sexy. Knowing more than one language is also a sign of sophistication, a desire to know and understand things beyond your little corner of the world. This too is attractive. Who hasn't dreamed of whisking a true love away to Provence or Tuscany or Barcelona?
Besides, nothing is sexier than a woman who can whisper sweet nothings in your ear in more than one tongue.
Well thank you! I'm french/british and it's lovely to hear that at least in the USA i might have some more success!
While I agree with you in principal that speaking in a foreign lanugage can be incredibly sexy, we don't always come across as looking intelligent.
I jokingly say I am bi-lingual, but I use three languages to get that way. I studied German in school, but then was accepted as an exchange student to Spain. Unfortunately for me, the words I have forgotten in Spanish are the exact words that I remember in German and vice versa. So when I try to speak in either language it comes out 1/2 German and 1/2 Spanish. Case in point, I was telling a fellow diner "I need an ambulance," (btw, I encourage everyone to learn this in several languages!! ;) ) which came out "Yo necesito un krankenwagen."
Thankfully the universal language of body language (i.e. sheer pain across my face) saved the day.
Hold up! The word for ambulance in German is krankenwagen?!
That is FANTASTIC. Thanks, ptk!
You're welcome! Literally translated it means "sick car" or "car for the sick". Why I remember that word in German, I'll never know. ;P
What was the question again? I was distracted by the thought of a tongue in my ear... Is it hot in here? :-D
Since I speak 4 languages, I'm must be double sexy, lol!
Meh, being bilingual isn't always a sign of sophistication.
I'm perfectly bilingual (french/english), but I've known both languages since I was 5 years old, so it didn't really have anything to do with wanting to know about the world.
Mais bon, c'est vrai que le français c'est sexy. :)
-_- thats not even grammatically correct..
Loll I was hoping nobody would come out and say that. I suppose the correct sentence would be: Par contre, c'est vrai que le français est une langue sexy.
But whatever, that's not how people talk in real life, at least not where I come from.
From past experience I have to say that women do seem to get turned on by whispering them naughty things in a foreign language... even if said language is as ugly as German, what with its throaty "ch" and hissing "sch" and hard consonants.
For the record I was born in the US to a German woman and then raised in Germany, went to German schools 'till 9th grade and returned state side when I was 15, so I'm perfectly bilingual and held dual citizenship... so I get to make disparaging comments about the German language. :)
This questions is ridiculous. Why do people feel the need to fish for compliments? "Gee.. i'm bilingual.. that's not a huge turnoff, is it??!!"
Oh, relax. The asker didn't say she was bilingual. Maybe she's thinking about becoming so.
Thinking about becoming so... because men think it's sexy? Lol this is a pretty silly question.
I don't know about sexy, but it's incredibly convenient when people think you don't understand them.
Maybe it's because I'm only 21, but 99% of the bilingual people that I know, male or female, are only bilingual because they've been that way since toddler-hood or learned a second language out of necessity when they moved to a new country. I definitely don't equate it necessarily with intelligence or sophistication.
