Are you scared of gay men and if so why?

Well, they keep trying to eat my brain for one. Wait, that's zombies. No, I am not afraid of gay men. Are you? You shouldn't be. Because it is not currently 1953. The Communists aren't going to attack America, and homosexual men aren't going to "give you the gay." Welcome to 2010. It's an amazing world where you can check on the status of your Domino's pizza with your phone.

But I will say it amuses me that you needed a qualifier for this question. As if explaining your reasons for being afraid of gay men would make it okay.

If I were afraid of gay men (and women), then I wouldn't have met some of the amazing people that I consider to be great friends. I would live a sad, lonely life that wasn't enriched by the smart, creative, funny, talented people in my world who also happen to be gay.

Despite the fact that I am writing this on a website which defines me as a "type" in big block letters, I do not define people by any one label. Gay, straight, bi-- we're all the same. Some of us are awesome, some are douche rockets. The only people I'm afraid of are those who would run and hide from someone because of their sexuality.

Be good to one another, folks. Don't be Judge-y McSmallmindedpants. And that's today's "GuySpeak after school special."

i don't think this guy was literally asking if YOU, nick, are afraid of gay men, but why it seems like all straight guys are. not older men but mostly high schoolers/some college kids/etc. not necessarily "afraid" but disrespectful. straight guys are, a lot of times, unaccepting and mean towards homosexuals.

The "if so, why?" part leads me to believe that they were asking my opinion on the subject.

I cannot speak for other men's feelings on homosexuality. I can speak about their feelings on relationships, work, fashion, etc., because those are universal experiences that we all share. But I cannot say whether or not someone would be understanding and tolerant when it comes to homosexuality. All I can do is share my feelings on the subject, and hope that it inspires others to be less judgmental.

I just didn't think you answered the question but I loved your answer anyway because i agree that all people should be open and loving to everybody because we are all the same. In my opinion, less mature men are homophobic because they think if they are friends with or nice to a gay person then people will think that they're gay-which is so stupid. Thanks for setting a great example, your answers are always very helpful!
