Do men like it when a woman reads magazines such as Cosmo? Or do men just wish women wouldn't follow magazines as if it were their "bible"?

Men like women who read the bible. Best example Jessica Simpson--totally hot and a bible-beater too. Women who read Cosmo tend to have looser morals, which may work for some guys but not for those seeking a serious, monogamous relationship.

Most guys like a traditional woman who is not all focused on gossip and looks and things of this nature.

Ummmm women who are comfortable with their sexuality read Cosmo. It has nothing to do with "morals". What is this, 1948?? Its possible to enjoy sex and still have personal values! That was such a closed-minded answer..no wonder you recommended the bible.

user-pic

Yeah but Cosmo gives awful sex advice.

Mannon

Cosmo gives awful everything advice. That's it's job. People love trashy advice rags, and reading about other people's problems, I don't see that there's anything wrong with it as long as you keep it in perspective.

Sefora18

Honestly, usually I love your answers but this was an epic fail for you. "Women who read Cosmo tend to have looser morals"? Really? So an interest in fashion is now a tell tale sign of slutty behavior...good to know. And btw Cosmo is a fashion magazine not a gossip rag. Seriously a disappointing answer this time

No

Please. No one reads Cosmo for the "fashion".

Uh, I hate those "bible-beaters". Live and let live people. And I don't think all guys like "traditional woman" who stay at home barefoot and pregnant. That life sound incredibly boring. And who says you need to be religious to be in a commited realationship? Plenty of people with so called "looser morals"(really? reading Cosmo automatically makes you a slut?) are in happy heathly relationships.

Really disappointed in MM.

No

I'm going to play devil's advocate and say that while MM's answer has some really unfair implications (i.e., women who read Cosmo are all sluts), there is a bit of truth behind it. Women who would prefer Cosmo over the Bible aren't necessarily going to have extremely loose morals, but they're going to be loosER than a woman who prefers the Bible over Cosmo....which, you have to admit, is a pretty trashy magazine that gives some pretty awful advice.

Also, I REALLY don't think MM was implying that "traditional" = "barefoot and pregnant". That's majorly jumping to a conclusion.

And to be fair to the commenters, Cosmo is not a gossip magazine.

prettylady

sexuality doesn't have anything to do with being a good person, ie having morals. Take an ethics class, people!

No

I didn't realize Rach's system of ethics is the ultimate truth and no other ways of thinking apply.

Open your mind.

prettylady

its not MY version of ethics, its the scholarly agreed upon position- if you approach ethics (whats right and wrong) from a RATIONAL, logical standpointe they really have nothing to do with each other.
True ethics is about rationality, not making arbitrary rules as to what one can and cannot do.

Mystery Man

wow this one really flew over most of your heads. this was just a stupid question so i gave it a stupid answer. jeez, i'm surprised at you all.

prettylady

The reason why its an upsetting answer is the implication that women who are comfortable with their sexuality and interested in Cosmo are somehow morally inferior to religious people. Ultimately, your feelings about sexuality shouldn't have any implications for how GOOD of a person you are. Its sad that the Bible basically shuns sex that's for enjoyment and not for procreation.
Its also really strange considering HOW MANY times Jessica Simpson has been on the cover of Cosmo...you cant just say that women who read Cosmo and the Bible are mutually exclusive categories.
Reading about sex tips doesn't necessarily mean one is extremely promiscuous. I am an avid reader of Cosmo and yet I only have sex with boyfriends- you know, in those serious, monogamous relationships that you implied I'm not fit for.
I think that instead of brushing off the answer flippantly you should revise it and not make the mistake of confusing morals with sexuality- that's the Bible's job.

A lot of us guys love woman who enjoy uninhibited, unrestricted sex as much as we do. They know all the best ways to turn us on and we don't have to lie about committing to them to get it. And they don't have to lie to us to get it either.

No

Well then MM, since our sarcasm-detecting abilities are so inferior, maybe you should just ANSWER THE QUESTION instead of being sarcastic and vague. Shockingly, a lot of people who ask questions of you are looking for honest, straight answers.

Mystery Man

oh molly don't be such a sap.

chrocs

If my reading comprehension abilities are not mistaken, the question is not about Cosmo vs the Bible but women who read Cosmo as if it was the Bible and follow every single silly advice as if it was an absolute truth. The advice in some of these magazines is absolutely unrealistic and some women risk making asses of themselves for following it to the letter instead of just living and learning for themselves what works and what doesn't.
Am I right, Mr. Mystery Man?

Okay, as someone who wants to work for Cosmopolitan, I have to say that it is NOT for a looser woman. I think you just insulted a shitload of women out there. I am in a 4 year relationship and it gives women tips on how to better please their men. If anything, you should be THANKING the woman that reads Cosmo, a man can only BENEFIT from it! 'Nuff said!

Wow, MM - got to love the "either-or" variety of options... I am a very religious person (Jewish), who happens to LOVE Cosmo for its entertainment value (and yes, sex advice - one must live and learn... or at least, be occasionally inspired). We don't need to go into the whole "Madonna/Whore" dilemma, do we?.. Didn't think so.

Am I the only religious woman (Jewish, although don't think that would make much of a difference), who LOVES her monthly Cosmo, if for no other reason than 1) its entertainment value and 2) the occasional inspiration for... uhm... a very Biblical commandment to enjoy physical intimacy?..

I certainly hope not...
