Do you like X-men comics? If so, how do you feel about Wolverine becoming a vampire?

Of course I like the X-Men. They were some of the first comics I read as a kid. I love all the classic stories ("Days of Future Past," "The Dark Phoenix Saga"), but am particularly fond of X-Men comics from the '90s. (The cartoon on FOX was also pretty fun.) X-Men comics from the '90s are CRAZY. Everyone carried big guns and wore giant shoulder pads and had names like Shatterstar and Lady Deathstrike. There were great characters like Rogue and Gambit, as well as some ridiculously stupid ones. Most of the stories went on forever (and made no sense), and every other issue would have a hologram cover or come packaged with trading cards or some other useless crap. But, man, did I love 'em.

The current Uncanny X-Men series (written by Matt Fraction) is pretty solid, but anyone who wants to read some great X-Men comics that don't rely on years of complicated backstory should check out Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. (Several graphic novel collections are available.) Anyone with even a passing interest in superhero comics will dig it, as will fans of Whedon's TV shows.

But, yeah, Wolverine is a vampire now. (Though, if you think about it, he's kind of always been a vampire. He's over 100 years old, can't be killed, is super moody, and is catnip to the ladies. Except for his fondness for cigars, he's basically Edward from Twilight with better hair, cool claws, and an actual backbone. Yeah, I said it.) In the current "Curse of the Mutants" storyline, Dracula's son declared war on humanity and a bunch of X-Men were turned into vampires. Because vampires are popular now, so, why not? (Speaking of, the Marvel Dracula is an old-school cape-wearing vampire. It's time to bring back the cape, Hollywood.)

Anyway, I don't imagine Wolverine (or any of the other X-Men for that matter) will be a chomping on necks for long. The storyline is pretty fun, but one thing you can always count on in superhero comics is that everything changes dramatically every six months or so. Characters die, come back to life, or get turned into Frankenstein all the time. (That's not a joke. The Punisher has been "Frankencastle" for like a year now.) Eventually, everything goes back to normal.  (Usually around the time a big comic book movie comes out.)

Anyone else read X-Men comics? Who's your favorite mutant? Also, are you getting tired of the vampire craze?

Definitely a little sick of the vampire craze. I agree with you, I want to see more old school Dracula with a new modern edge, you know? Nothing too dramatic, no sparkly bodies, but going back to the vampires of old when they were fearsome, scary, and downright sacrilegious to sleep with---while still being sexy. A little. Not too much sexy though. But whatever...I predict in the new future the next new craze will be werewolves or something. Or Frankenstein. Or Frankenstein/werewolf hybrids. Who knows...

Oh, and I don't really have a favorite X-men. I'm more of a DC fan. (Batman all the way...)

DC sucks balls, Marvel all the way. And personally I prefer Chaos Comics (Evil Ernie, Lady Death, & Purgatori are some of my fave comic characters). While I love a good vampire story, I thought it was pretty awesome when they did a take on zombies. Marvel zombies were pretty awesome. :)....and yeah I'm a female, and I adore all things comic book related lol.

Dracula would kick Edward's ass any day. What vampire doesn't drink human blood? And the sparkle thing? Fail. And what vampire skips out on sex for fear of hurting the chick?... Honestly!

But yeah, X-men are awesome. I also like JLA, Outsiders, and Avengers (I was so mad when they killed Antman and Jack Of Hearts!)

The whole vampire thing is being beaten (not to death since they can't die). Also, I LOVE when you answer comic questions and generally just questions not related to relationships. :) It's refreshing. Thanks.

I was sick of the vampire craze practically before it began. Just not my thing.

I don't agree with the "useless" list. No power is really useless if the person can use it correctly.

And my fave X-men character would have to be Rogue. She's awesome, though I like the version(s?) where she has the superstrength and flight powers better than the ones where she doesn't.

And don't hate on DC dude. You may like Marvel better, but they're both awesome.

Also, has anyone seen the trailer for the manga version of Wolverine?

Twilight SUCKS

I've liked Vampyrs and the supernatural since I was liiiittle, as in, 8 and was writing my own stories. Twilight has no actual Vampyrs in it, JUST FUCKING SPARKLE FAERIES.

As for X-men, faves are Nightcrawler, Wolverine. Other characters of marvel? Sabretooth, Venom and Deadpool!
