I couldn't care less if a girl bites her fingernails.
If you bite schlongs, trees, or bats,THEN Portland, we have a problem.
But let's take a look at an extended list of things I couldn't care less about (and other men woudln't give a sh*t about either):
1) If you drive a Camry
2) If you drink Unsweetened Ice Tea
3) If you haven't seen Roadhouse (though you probably should)
4) If you like to paint your toenails in checkered designs
5) If you believe in miracles
6) If you prefer Burger King's fries over McDonald's
7) If you really like your granny panties
8) If you cried while watching The Lion King
9) If you still dot your "i's" witih hearts or smiley faces
10) If you don't have the job of your dreams
11) If you just have to watch Grey's Anatomy every Thursday
12) If you're favorite basketball player is Kobe Lebron
13) If you care about the lives of Perez Hilton or Kim Kardashian
14) If you like to play with rubberband or Jacks
As you see...this list can go on and on. Most men only care about how you look and that you aren't dumb. Now. If you OUT OF NOWHERE start biting HIS fingernails, you might have a problem. See, fingernail biting might be annoying to see - assuming you do it frequently as a sign of stress, anxiety, or because you just like things in your mouth - but only in its most extreme circumstances does it really become a problem. Like if you can't make it to meet my mother because you JUST have to bite that one damn fingernail.
Same goes with most "quirks". They're only a problem when they become a problem. Everybody has their own "thing" that might annoy people, but usually couples learn to live with and love eachother's quirks so that we may coexist and procreate. And have sloppy sex while we're doing it.

Its a nasty habit. Its not good to stick your fingers in your mouth, thats something my 12 year niece does that drives me nuts. Think of the germs!!
They sell this awesome product at local drug stores called Mavala, its a clear polish that you paint on and the minute you go to chew you get this nasty taste in your mouth. Its pretty effective... To each their own on this nail biting situation, but to me that rates right up there with chewing with your mouth open. Yuck
I agree. I think its so gross, especially those little sucking noises and stuff when they're chewing them offf. God, its so barbaric! Bitten nails just look really gross too.
It can actually be categorized as a mental disorder in the same category as OCD in the anxiety disorders section (of the DSM 4). Its a common habit, but it certainly can be damaging. I know this one guy who chewed off whole nails so it was just puffy skin.... I couldnt even look at his hands without wanting to throw up. He did it compulsively.
I used to bite my nails. I agree that it is a nasty habit, but it was how I would express frustration or stress. It's a natural habit and I believe that as long as you are not biting them to the point where they're are bleeding or something, that those polishes and tapes and other ways people use to force themselves to stop biting their nails are unnecessary. I bit my nails from when I was young until I was 15. Like I said, it's a natural habit and most people will grow out of it on their own.
I bite my fingernails because I get really anxious. I know it is a nasty habit, one I equate with smoking (which I don't do, thank goodness!), but as PJ said, I think most of us have irritating habits that we wish we didn't.
I tried that stuff that you put on your fingers to give it that nasty taste, but the compulsion was just too great. The only thing that works for me is when I get those acrylic nails put on top of my real fingernails.
At least when I bite my nails, I do so in private.
I think short bitten nails on a female is very sexy and look for them when interested in a woman.
I once had a girlfriend who, in trying to reduce her habit, bit my nails so much that she permanently shortened them by more than 30%, and I love that too! :)
I'm an inveterate nail biter but I before I was married I only dated one girl who bit her nails back in high school. We got along find and she never bugged me about my habit. I find short bitten fingernails and toenails with red nail polish very sexy. But I do not find it attractive in women as a whole. It seems more a guy habit.
