Abso-frickin'-lutely.
Everybody's got what the hilarious show "Avenue Q" calls "The Bad Idea Bears". Sometimes, it's just a flawed understanding of people and how they work. Other times, it's a person who eggs them on to bad behavior.
It could be some troll who wants your boyfriend, a "friend" who thinks watching other people hurt themselves is hilarious...the list goes on. Part of the process of growing up is realizing this about these people and cutting them out of your life. The catch is, you can't do it for them.
I'm assuming you've been on the wrong end of this, and I'm sorry to hear it. My advice? Move on. If they're not mature enough to put your feelings ahead of their pleasure, you can do a lot better.
So completely true! That's why I'm very picky who I keep for company. I prefer to not hang around chronically excessively negative people, lest their negativity rubs off on me. Likewise for people who like to do things I don't, such as cheating on their spouses or SOs.
