I broke up with a guy who said he wasn't sure if he wanted a relationship, but then came back and said he did, only to find him saying the same thing a month later. Did I do something, or is he just an ass?

He's an ass. But at least he's a consistent ass.
If he's said this to you twice, then realistically speaking he's not ready. But you're steady to him, so he wants to hang onto that. But this isn't about him, it's about you, and if you want a relationship, ditch him.
Allow me to preface this by stating that I'm writing under a vicodin induced haze right now, so if I sound a bit loopy it's because I am.
You know that old saying "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me"? Keep that in mind should he come crawling back again. That being said, I don't think that it's something you did. But you know what? Even if it is something you did, he didn't man up and tell what it was that was bothering him. You want a guy that has enough guts to tell you if something is wrong, right? So, no big loss. Write this guy off and move on.
