You should definitely tell him, and also let him know that you need help stopping. If he's about to move in with you, I doubt this will be a dealbreaker. Tell him it's just something you've always done and want to stop.
Chances are it's a nervous habit that you do for comfort, like biting your nails or twirling your hair. It's a habit like any other that can (and should) be broken. For one, it's really bad for your teeth. Plus, it's time to find a new source of comfort for the long-term health of your relationship and your own personal growth.
Visit your dentist and ask for advice. There are mouth guards you can wear at night that will prevent you from sticking your thumb in your mouth and also hopefully correct any damage you've done to your teeth. Also, you could try the age-old technique used by moms and dads the world over: put some vinegar (or other foul-tasting liquid) on your thumb before bed. A couple nights of waking up with vinegar mouth will cure anything.
The important thing is to be honest with your boyfriend and ask him for help. (You don't want to catch him off-guard and have him think there are some emotional issues you aren't telling him about.) It's a personal quirk, and now is the time to finally come clean and share everything with him since he's the person sharing your home and bed.

The first girl I ever loved sucked her thumb. I think it was a comfort thing; when she got nervous or needed reassurance it just kinda happened. We were 16 at the time, and she always said she'd crack the habit by the time she hit 18. We're now pushing 30, and she still does it occasionally.
Everybody has their quirks. Some people have a favourite pillow or blanket, some people need things arranged just so. If you honestly think it's a problem then by all means, try any and all of the things Nick just suggested above. I don't know why you'd need/want to though; you're asleep when it happens, who gives a shit? If it were my girl I'd smile at how adorable she looked, kiss her shoulder, wrap my arms around her and go back to sleep. I don't think it's anything you need to worry about.
I'm 30 and I still sleep with my stuffed bunny. While I might have stuck it in a drawer while we were getting busy (those beady little eyes could be disconcerting), my boyfriends all knew about it and didn't care. Now I've been married for 7 years and my husband doesn't care.
I often think that if people could choose to have an object that could instantly make them feel more relaxed and less stressed out, just by touching it, everyone would want one.
If your dentist signs off on your habit and it's not damaging your teeth, suck away, I say.
I have a bear, and none of the guys I've dated have had a problem with it-except for the jerk who thought hanging on to sentimental objects was a sign of lunacy. Though, when The men-folk are sleeping over I tend to put bear in the closet. As long as He's aware of it, it shouldn't be a big deal.
I have to say that for the past couple of hours i have been hooked by the impressive articles on this website. Keep up the great work.
