Well, there could be several reasons, not least being the shame of still being on MySpace (ba-dum-tish).
It could be purely he's worried that you'll think he might be cheating if he's openly talking to his exes. Many guys have had the "ex still on the friend's list" argument. Even if you don't mind him having online accounts, he might still be trying to avoid it.
Or he's using it for purposes he doesn't want to talk about, whether innocent or not-so-innocent. Honestly, the presence of the best friend tells me it's more likely for innocent purposes than not: cheaters don't want anybody to know what they're up to.
Either way, you need to confront him about it and have a serious talk. Let him know (if it's the case) that his talking to his exes doesn't bother you, but hiding the account does. Then ask him why he has it, and go from there.
