It sounds like it, but this probably isn't a good thing.
People don't just randomly break up. They do it because something has happened. I have no idea what that is, here, but you need to ask yourself if anything has changed or if he's just lonely. Or horny. Or whatever. Better to let it go than to go back.
I think it depends on the reason for the breakup. If it was a maturity thing and you feel like his issues are no longer there. If it was because of always arguing and things, unless it was for previously stated maturity reasons, then why would you want to get back with him. Any sort of violence is a definite no go. Most of the time, it's better to let an ex be just that-an ex. At the very least if you are considering him again, spend some time with him for awhile to see if the issues that were in your relationship are gone, then you might want to get back together. I got back together with an ex because the reason was he wasn't ready to be a boyfriend. After 2 years apart, we started dating again, slowly at first.Now we are good. BTW, I didn't have sex with him again util 6 months in. Good luck.
