Wow, I didn't realize all the guys in Finland were shy. How tragic. Perhaps you should head on over to Sweden or Norway. I'm almost sure that ALL of those guys are less shy.
I'm just funning you. I have to wonder what it might be about you that's terrifying the guys. Are you just that gorgeous where a man is bewildered by your very presence? I've seen that happen before. Hell, it's happened to me before where I saw a woman that literally lockjawed me. I couldn't say anything. She didn't seem real. And I wasn't sure I wanted her to be real. She was too perfect.
Of course that's only the outside. Inside she could have been the most hollowed out shell of an evil gila monster. But you don't really ever try to get to know pretty people, you just like to look at them.
So yes, if you see a guy that tickles your fancy and you'd like to get to know him, I say go and say hello and then let him do all the work. I'm not a traditionalist in the sense that if a man is interested he'll come talk to you. That premise ignores the "he might not even know you exist" fact that is lingering out there like a singing cranberry. I do think that you should put yourself out there and THEN let the guy take over though. No woman should have to lead the entire way because it sets a bad precedent.

not even! You have to approach Sweedish men. They by convention do not approach you. They give you a three second look and then look away... called the Sweedish look. That's how you know they're interested and you should walk over to them...
oh that sucks! I think I would go crazy in a country where men weren't friendly and gave you passive aggressive creepy stares! I've heard such nice things about Sweedish people, hopefully this one isn't true??

When I go to visit my family back in Italy the men are the complete opposite X__X you gotta fight em off. Wouldn't surprise me if the Swedish are cold, but then again thats stereotyping. Maybe those particular men just weren't interested . It doesn't matter what a mans nationality may be , if he wants you he'd come for you.

I was born in Finland and then came over to the U.S. I know what you mean about the shyness. Just be confident and go up to the guy of your desire! nothing turns Finnish on more than a assertive girl, that's why when I visited after a few years here all the men I used to know from my old neighborhood flocked to me trying to take me out to places. It was funny that the same men who would of looked at me from across the room then look away all of sudden now see me as an aphrodisiac because of my outspokenness. Just be the enhanced you, still be you but be more confident and outspoken, you might get dirty looks from other girls there but you will not be short of a man. lol
I went to Sweden on vacation and I actually found the guys there to be EXTREMELY forward. It is totally not true, at least from my experience. You can just be sitting in a mall resting your feet and men will sit next to you and attempt to hit on you. Hell, even the airport guy tried to hit on me :S
I don't know, I found that they were a LOT more forward than say, the English [not a good comparison perhaps?] or Australians...

I used to live in Norway and the men are almost terrified to look at woman, infact only when drunk will a Norwegian approach you in that way, which is normally one night at the weekend as alochol is so freaking expensive. When i lived there I had a boyfriend, but I found it really strange that Norwegian men did not check you out like men from other parts of the world, so I asked around and i found out that... apparently women in Norway are not treated or looked upon as sexual objects but rather they prefer to be treated as equals, which dates back to Jantelagen - a set of odd and unofficial rules that Scandiavians live by and take a bit too seriously. Infact the whole concept of Jantelagen is weird - you should google it alot of things that you have encountered in Finland will start to make sense to you. Women are treated exceptionally well in Norway, are completely 50/50 in the workplace and have amazing childcare benefits. Go them..
For me it is a bit depressing! - Whats nicer than stepping out of your door or walking to work and have a nice man wink at you and call you beautiful. You should move to Buenos Aires, theres no shortage of compliments in that city!!!!
