Yeah, I play with my engagement ring allll the time. I also always crack my fingers, play with my hair and tap on desks/counters/surfaces. It has nothing to do with anything, I just always have to be moving.
I didn't take it as the asker assuming he was unhappy with the relationship. If anything, I took it as her wondering if the man was being extra "showy" to make sure she realized he was married. Just what I got out of it, though.
