I unfriended my ex on facebook (we're freshly broken up) 2 weeks ago because I was so pissed at him. Now it doesn't feel right anymore, but if I refriend him I'm afraid he'll think everything is "forgiven".... How long should I wait until I refriend him?

How about some years from now?

See, you messed up by trying to make a point. Then you realized how trivial that was and you want to undo it. Except now if you undo it, it's a noticeable move, and frankly, if I were him, I don't think I'd accept your friend request.

However, you need to stop over thinking it. You made the move out of pissedness; you're entitled. It happens. I'm sure he understands that. Except, its such a bold move nowadays considering how seriously people take Facebook (I'm still not completely sure why either). So either you eat crow and accept the consequences - him thinking things are forgiven or him saying that you were childisn and immature for unfriending him only to attempt to refriend him again - or you wait for years to go by when the pain from the breakup is all but forgotten and you've both moved to playing hide the salami with other people.

So either you do it now and look immature, or you wait to do it a long time from now when its just something that people who haven't seen eachother in years do for the hell of it.

And by the way, I'm pretty sure I reverted to being a 17-year old white girl somewhere during the course of the paragraph before last. Like, wow.

Le sigh.

No

Yeah, waiting is definitely best. Re-friending him now will make you look very mentally unstable.

good advice! and I agree i don't agree why people take facebook so seriously!

I de-friended (that is SO not a word) my ex, and I don't regret it at all. The breakup wasn't messy, or anything. But if I'm not going to be dating him I really have no reason to see what (or who) he posts on his FB. Looking at him moving on with his life, or thinking about him watching me move on will just make me feel like a heel. I say clean break. If you still want to be friends or whatever, keep in touch the old fashioned way; through text messages.

hmmm...

I ended on good terms with my ex so I let him know I was going to defriend him so there wouldn't be any "wtf" feelings over it. No matter how the break up was, you really don't want to see your ex moving on or not moving on when it comes down to it. If i want to catch up with him, I just do what normal people did before facebook and call him...so very less stalkerish than creeping up on his wall, right??!

My relationship ended well but I decided do defriend my ex anyways and I let him know beforehand so that he wouldn't be "wtf!?" about it. Regardless of how the relationship ended I think it's best to defriend your ex because you don't really want to see them moving on or not moving on. If I want to catch up with him, I just call him up the way normal people did before facebook was invented. This way, I don't have to be a stalker and creep up on his wall.

Well, basically, I unfriended him to make a point yes, but only because he REALLY messed up with me (not gonna go into details). I just had second thoughts because all of his exes unfriended him and I didn't want to be like them, and also I kind of want him to see my page and not get over me..... Silly but logical?

Why do you want to re-friend him anyway? He's your ex. What information do you want to know about him and want him to know about you? Always delete your exes. They can be not only ex-boyfriends, but ex-facebook-friends, too. Facebook is just a stupid, overblown, superflous fad anyway. In seven years, no one will be using it.
