What? He didn't even tear up a little? Not even during the first few minutes? When I saw that opening montage with Carl and Ellie falling in love and growing old together, the theater was Crytown, population everyone. The music alone is enough to reduce even the most macho alpha male to a whimpering baby.
Does your boyfriend know that Up has been officially sanctioned by GuySpeak as a movie that guys are allowed to cry during? Are you sure he isn't a robot?
Well, maybe he was crying on the inside. I don't know if that's a dump-able offense. It could just be that you have different taste in movies. Is he a guy who usually shows his emotions? Maybe he was moved by it, but not enough to cry. (Though anyone who has ever lost a grandparent will probably at least get a little choked up.)
Did he at least like it???? Don't leave me hanging!
Lmaooo. I definitely teared up in that scene and I rarely cry in movies despite being a girl. Not even in the Notebook. But omg, if my guy doesn't at least tear up in HP7p2, I'll have to question our relationship. I was literally trying SO hard to not turn into a bawling, whimpering baby in the theatre.
And I only half succeeded at best.
^ i'm in the same boat as you lol. :)
I have seen UP, and am a man. My fiance teared up a bit but I was pretty much normal. It was touching and I felt that heart twang but I rarely show sadness haha. Just not really in me. Plus being socialized by football, rugby, the military and police service probably doesn't help that.
In the end, your guys may just not be much of a sadness type of person. He may feel an emotion when viewing that opening montage but not openly show it as I do.
Just a thought.
I would say do the guy a favor and dump him. If you're considering dumping him over him not crying at a movie. . .
For gods sake is this a serious question?!?!?
Yeah, sure, dump him. Now. By a text message. Get a soppy teary nice guy who won't man up for you.
Taht's my favorite movie of all time!!!!
The animation?
I didn't cry the first time I saw UP but the second time I sobbed! Carl reminded me so much of my grandpa. I haven't been able to watch it since he died.
I don't know what it is about Disney and Disney/Pixar movies but they have the ability to make you laugh and then they tear your heart out and stomp all over it...
And I totally agree about the music. I can't even listen to the "Farewell" score from Pocahontas without crying my eyes out. I'm a history major and I could care less that movie is not historically accurate. Ever see the sequel where they tried to be somewhat accurate? Horrible.
I know my brother saw UP before me and he said it was sad but I don't know if he cried. If I had a boyfriend who didn't cry, I wouldn't dump him, that's just stupid. I mean it's a sad movie but people react to things differently. Kinda going off what CG said, if he doesn't show his emotions a lot, why would he cry on the outside??
I definitely don't think this is a dealbreaker. Even I didn't cry during that movie, and I'm a girl. But that's just me. I mean, I've never cried during any movies. It's most likely his personal taste, but even if someone finds something sad, he/she may not cry. And some people keep themselves distanced from a movie too; after all, they are just characters, and UP is animated. I know I typically judge HOW the movie is made, not necessarily its content.
Personally, I don't like very sensitive guys, but it's your call. I don't think it's anything to end a relationship over, unless there is something else that is causing your doubt.
