Trust the people that know him.
Guys are much nicer to women than they are to other guys. If you want a guide to how he really is, see how he treats women he's not dating. If he's a jerk to them, eventually he'll be a jerk to you.
If not, then he's putting up a front, although that might come with its own problems.

yep. it's true. oh this makes me think of my ex, so read Dan's last line very very carefully. so many people after my divorce were like, thank GOD. anybody that i know that knew him, or met him, even for like five minutes, their reaction afterwards was always "what an ASShole". someone in my non profit council even said that about him, and had no idea that we were even previously married. i was so blind, and lucky to get out when i did. which even to some is considered too late because now i share a child with him, and the douche behavior continues almost daily despite the fact that he has gone on with a new wife, a new kid, and more on the way. my child is my world and i get up and breathe in the morning to make sure he will go out into the world as a fine young man, and do everything in my power to have that happen. but i still say, i have about 10 more years left in that "sentence" because that's just how big an ass he is. you should never have to question if you should stay with an ass or not. if people he knows are saying it...sheesh. run girl.
