I'm really tall (6'1") and intensely athletic, muscles and all. People talk all the time about how great it is to be tall, but I often feel much more like a linebacker than a supermodel. How can I approach guys without intimidating them? And how do I make myself seem more feminine in the male eye?

There's nothing more cringey than a perfectly attractive, tall girl trying to play small. You see it all the time - constantly in middle school - the girl who naturally towers a good ten inches over her mates, but feels so ashamed she is in a permanent back bend and tries mercilessly to bury herself in the gaggle.

There's no real need in 7th grade to do so and you, as an adult, need to elongate your natural spine, not shrink it. Many, many men and women find height to be sexy. Clothes look nice on you, your walk probably has a natural beauty to it and your ability to locate top shelf liquor is nothing to frown upon.

Now, you say in addition to having an impressive height you are built like Ray Lewis. I assume your muscular physique is something you worked towards. Nobody wakes up one day out of the blue with a record of 1,349 tackles, 36.5 sacks, and 28 INT's. You clearly enjoy working on your body and now it's time to work it.

Many, many men would cream in their short shorts if you kicked-it to them. In all likeliness you are probably attracted to men who care for their bodies too. Your strength doesn't have to be a weakness it's just a characteristic. My sense is the only thing stopping you (like some footballers) is psyching yourself out before the match. Don't assume your stature isn't anything but a plus. Do you know how many women are terribly out of shape and roll up to guys with no care?  Your issue is not a matter of being too tall, but too shy.

Get out there and test your confidence. In no time your game will be at new heights.

I am also 6'1. I discovered years ago that it it on me to break the ice with people, male or female. Height intimidates people for whatever reason. Sometimes it helps to have a funny comment or two about your height to help diffuse the situation. Mostly FG is right, you are shy. Me too. Most men love tall women. Screw up your courage and go for it.

FG, pass my email along to Kate if that will help.....

Sweetie, I'm 6'3" and STILL wear 5 inch heels when I feel like it. People call me an Amazon and I love it! Some people are going to be intimidated, that's just natural, it's nothing against you though, those are their insecurities. A lot of guys love tall women, even short ones! You just need to present yourself as open and willing to strike up a conversation. Dress how you like and how you think makes you look and feel good. Self confidence is sexy. If you're sending out the "I'm attractive and willing to have a good time" vibes people will pick up on that. Shoulders back, hair back, and smile. :D

You go, girl! You've just inspired me to wear heals more. I'm 5'9" and I usually don't wear heals so I don't tower over people as much, but maybe I just need to own my height more. You certainly do, and that confidence rocks:)

Thank you! :D

I'm only 6' but FG is right, I go for guys with the same goals, tall and fit. I always joke saying you gotta be 6' to ride this ride...it usually is a great ice breaker for me

I say that to guys too! lol

Quick male perspective: When laying down, height doesn't matter anymore :)

TRUE! My bf is an inch or so shorter than me (I'm 5'9") but when we're lying down or snuggling, it really doesn't make any difference to me. As long as I feel safe and comfortable in his arms, I don't care about height-lying down, standing up, on the counter, in the bathroom... ;)

FG and others who commented on this, thanks so much! I really appreciate all of your input! I guess there's no other way to really go about being tall other than to own it. And Mike, I never really thought about it that way... But that's VERY true.

Also, FG, as much as I like Ray Lewis, I was thinking more along the lines of Clay Matthews. You know, the long flowy hair.
