It's a disorder where (at least in my case) my jaw kind of pops out of place and sometimes it locks up. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the one where your jaw meets with your skull and for whatever case (usually grinding teeth when you were a kid) the joint is now irregular. So it slides and pops out of place. So keeping your mouth held open in such an awkward way for extended points of time can not only hurt, but I've had my jaw lock up just from yawning so I can't even imagine... lol
