Is it okay for me to have a serious relationship with my brother, if we're not sure we're siblings?

Um, no? And what do you mean you're not sure. Can't you just, ya know, ASK somebody? Perhaps a parent or somebody who might actually know?

Let's say for the sake of argument that one of you is adopted and you've begun dating but during the dating process you all started talking backgrounds and got a tingling feeling like maybe you're siblings.

Why, at that point, wouldn't you just say, this is sick, let's just fall back?

Oh and just in case I'm not clear, no, it is not okay for you to have a serious relationship with your brother, even if you're not sure because you already referred to him as you brother which to mean means you assume that he is and would need proof that he isn't, which is still nasty if you think about it because its like you want to willfully forego the matching DNA that you're pretty sure exists to play naked and test God's plan and I'm fairly sure that there is no blue lagoon present...and neither is Brooke Shields.

In conclusion. Stop it.

Poor thing, you really do get the doozies!

I think I just vomited in my mouth a little.

If by 'serious relationship', you mean brother-and-sister, suuuuuurrrre. Go right ahead.

But if you're not sure you're siblings, you should just be good friends...

meiggs

jeez, this is eerily reminiscent of Middlesex. You know, the book about two siblings who marry each other, procreate, and then their grandkid is a hermaphrodite? Besides the ick factor (which is pretty huge), the reason it's so looked down upon is because genetic diversity is what prevents recessive genes from being expressed, i.e. if you make babies with your brother and you both inherited the recessive gene of some crazy genetic mutation, there is a 25% chance that your baby will be homozygous recessive and have the crazy mutation. Besides......ew.

Wow, do you live in the back country, possibly in the south?
