Is New Years Eve a family holiday? My family never does much (my dad is a cop, he has to get up at 4am), usually we don't even stay up. But would it be appropriate to ask my college bf to visit or if I could visit him? He'd have trouble saying no, but I know that our plans would cut into family time if they do that.

I have never really considered it a family holiday as such - don't think many people do. Just a night for a good party to welcome in the new year. I'd suggest you go to him, as your not being home isn't going to trash any of your parents plans.
Going to him also means he can say no if his folks do have plans.
I know that it's past New Year but whatever I'm gonna share my opinion anyway and no-one can stop me. HA!
I'm fairly sure it's considered a couple holiday, at least if applicable, with a tradition like a New Year's kiss how could it not be?
