Libraries are old fashioned. You are correct. Good guys hang out at Home Depot. Specifically in aisle 6, near the router bits. If they're not there, don't worry they're just in the bathroom or, possibly, though not likely over at window treatments, I think that's aisle 12, but I'm not positive. I'd ask Ray in Appliances.
Beyond Home Depot, it sounds like you were meeting guys sort of on the fly at music venues. There's a word for that: Groupie or Band-aid, right? It isn't impossible to find a good guy at a rough and tumble place. But it's like finding someone actually laughing at a Jay Leno taping: its possible but it's not likely. So I say yes, go somewhere you have a chance of engaging someone: not under neon lights and blaring sound. Stop grinding and check out a coffee shop, a bookstore, a poetry slam.
Go somewhere that allows you to converse and explore compatibility. Or, get set up by someone you trust. Try the world of online romance. But don't be fanatical about anything, not all dudes you meet on the dance floor are vapid, one-nightstand meatheads and not every guy you meet in aisle 6, is someone you should bring to the check out line.
