If you wanted to get married so badly, that should have been discussed within the first year of dating. I'm not suggesting that you have to go all Bridezilla (honestly I would love to punch a Bridezilla in the face), but you should have gathered his thoughts on marriage a long time ago. If he told you from day one he had no desire to be married, then yeah thats pretty much it.

Where do you go from here? 8 years in itself is like a mini marriage. Just be upfront and tell him this. If he's dead set against it, move on. Because before you know it 8 years will turn in to ten, and then so on and so forth, Marriage isn't a done deal, a man can still walk out on you. So if your down with the domestic partnership of it all... Then be happy..
