You ask him to replace it. He broke it, so he needs to replace it, whether he meant to or not. Lack of intent doesn't make it any less broken.
How old was it? If it wasn't new, I don't think you should expect him to buy you a new one. He can buy you a used one around the same age as yours, or give you the cash equivalent and let you buy your own. He will probably say he doesn't have the money, but that's a cop out. Even if he can't cough up $700-800 in one lump sum, he can pay you in installments over a period of time. (Apple has interest-free financing for up to a year, so you could go ahead and buy a new machine, then pay it off as he pays you without ever accruing interest. As a student, you also get the Apple educational discount.)
Or he could borrow the money. Or work overtime. Or wash cars. Or sell lemonade. Or hock his XBox 360. Or get an advance on his paycheck. Or sell blood. Or whatever. At the moment he's doing absolutely nothing, and that's unacceptable. There are ways to make this right, and he needs to find one. Now.
You shouldn't even have to ask him, but that's life.
Thanks for the question.
wow your boyfriend is a jerk! my ex-boyfriend's niece once spilled red juice all over my coach bag and he offered to pay for a new one even though he didn't do it and it was an accident. i didn't take him up on his offer but that is what a gentleman does. he for sure needs a talk about how to be a man.
wow love people like that. i have a really nice sports car and my friends always ask to drive it(i know they will speed to try out the good engine) and i ask what they would do if they wrecked it, like would they pay me back, and theyre like uhh i dont know. douches! people shouldnt use things unless they are willing to replace it if they ruin it...
Yeah, that is not cool. Esp a Macbook come on it's not like he dropped and broke a plate. Accidents can happen and yes of course you might feel terrible about it but it doesn't excuse you from good etiquette. If it were me, I would definitely feel obligated to replace it, and replace it immediately!
I hope she updates us! I'm so curious to know how this turns out!!
If you break it, you replace it. Didn't we learn that in kindergarten? Some people have no home training.
I beg to differ with Cary a little bit. I think he should replace it with a new one -- to compensate her for "pain and suffering." I would be broke down like the Titanic if something happened to my Mac. I'm getting verklempt just thinking about it.
verklempt!! LOVE it!! :)
