My boyfriend got mad at me because I go tanning, he thinks I'm killing myself, and is now furious with me and is holding a grudge. What can I do to make it up to him? Or at least get him to talk to me?

Easy--stop tanning! Tanning will do three things for you, 1) turn you into a disgusting, leathery, tea bag; 2) help you acquire skin cancer; 3) in your case, ruin relationships. Doesn't seem worth it, does it?

The fact that your boyfriend is this upset should tell you how much he cares about you. He would probably feel the same way if you picked up smoking or ate a Big Mac three times day.

Stop tanning. Be healthy. Be happy!

Excellent answer! I completely agree!

There are plenty of fauxe tanners out there. I mean grant it they smell bad, but they do the same damn thing. I think your lucky that he cares :) he cares enough to let you know that he'd still love your pastey face . awwwwww

I think tanning is horrible! I'm extremely fair skinned and have had my try at tanning. It never worked out. I turned RED and after months of looking like a lobster, I stopped.

I would love to be one of those bronzed beauties instead of reflecting sunlight but that's just not my skin! I'm not going to risk my health for a "glow".

You're boyfriend seems to really care about you! Oh and MM answer is spectacular.

um. yes, tanning is not good for you. it's good for your mood- the heat and light is uplifting, but not good for you.

but we all have vices. some of us smoke, drink, gamble, etc... and tanning doesn't seem like the worst of them at all.

we're not supposed to try and change men- you take them as is- voice your opinion if something bothers you- but then it's up to them to change... if they want..

if he can't take you tanning to the point of being furious.... what else is he going to disapprove of and make you feel bad for?

Your risk of cancer increases by 75% if you start tanning before age 30. Tanning beds are now considered a "definite" cause of cancer, along with smoking, hepatitis B, etc. The boyfriend obviously wants her to take care of herself so they can be healthy and happy together.

but he's not her father. I GET that it's bad for you.. i swear i do!! but all he can do is express his concern and then it's in her court. we're looking for partners not parents.

if you're dating someone with a stupid deadly habit and you don't like it, talk to them about it, don't get pissed at them. If they don't want to quit smoking, stop tanning, stop smoking crack (whatever) then let them go.. they're not for you.

Yay! Some one who realizes that you don't have to be 5 shades darker than your natural color to look good.

Your boyfriend is concerned for you, which is adorable. Also, what is this country's obsession with tanning? I see At The Beach's all over the place. Love the skin you're in, no matter what color it is.Tanning is horrible because it increases your risk of cancer.

I think it is very sweet too that he cares so much to make a stink about it....give him a hug girl and say thank you....then go cancel your membership and tanning appointments...

Leathery tea bag ..........love that very accurate description.

I mean I understand why he cares for you, but for him to get so furious at you and hold a grudge is maybe a little overreacting...I do tan, yes, but maybe once every now and then...not enough to make me look leathery or orange or anything. I understand if you tan a lot and he is highly concerned...thats sweet...but if you don't, I don't believe you should have to bow down and apologize like crazy for something like tanning...

I understand if he is concerned and wants to talk to you about it by telling you how he feels, as far as your safety, and stuff...but to be furious and hold a grudge makes it look like you did something wrong to him...when technically you didn't.

Whoa, whoa, hellz NO!
I agree that tanning is awful, but it's also none of anyone else's business. If the asker wants to get tanned, tattooed, pierced, probed, whatever, it is her right.
Lady, you owe him no apologies! It's your body- do what you want. Someone who's concerned about your health may express it, but ultimately respect your decision. Someone who gets MAD at you is being controlling and doesn't respect your ownership over your own body.
