First things first: Your brother is suicidal yet "no one knows this." He needs help -- professional and adult; it's way, way too much responsibility for you to protect him and carry this crisis alone.
So stop, drop and tell your folks and/or call The National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255.
Now, to your questions: your friend probably responded that way because she was bugged out -- felt nervous, helpless and caught off guard. I'm not sure how old you are, but this topic is massive for a person of any age. If you guys have a deep and sincere friendship, you can tell her, the way she responded hurt your feelings.
Or, if this girlfriend of yours kind of sucks: next time you're at her house, take a colossal poop in her toilet and don't flush. When she confronts you, smile back and say "Oh... I don't know, let's just forget this/not talk about this, ciao."
