Yes, it is possible that he was just seeing if you still wanted him or was just flirting with you, but I don't think that was the case. My guess is that he was testing the waters. If you had replied favorably to his suggestion, he would have been on your doorstep within minutes, I bet. But when you said no, it wasn't that big a deal because he lost nothing: he's not having sex with you as it is, and he has a girlfriend, so why not take a shot at a tumble with the ex for old times' sake? The worst that can happen is that she'll say no.
If I'm right, yes, I would consider that cheating. If he wasn't serious about having sex, it might not be cheating but it's still a jerk move, and unfair to both you and his current girlfriend.

I asked this question and I completely agree with Cary. And even if he was drunk, he did it again a couple nights later. BTW he has only been with this girl exclusively for a week and they started dating a month after we broke up. So yes silkysly, defintely a douche text...
