Worth pursuing and pursuable are two different monsters. Sure it's probably worth pursuing. The chance to meet a new person who may or may not be the "one" is always a great opportunity. And who can't stand to meet new people.
Here's the problem: how can you actually go ON the blind date if neither of you can get to one another. Obviously you don't live in NYC or any other city where public transportation is just what people do or this would be a non-issue. And in that case, I'd probably suggest that you tell your friends, "thanks, but no thanks". At least romantically. If they think that you two are a good match then perhaps you all can chit chat online or over the phone (do people still talk on the phone?) and in the event that you two have the ability to meet up on your own terms then you do so. But it seems like the lack of vehicular transportation is a roadblock, and who wants one of those BEFORE you even get going with somebody.
I'm sure he's a nice guy and maybe one day you two will be able to meet for coffee or truffles, or whatever it is you crazy kids are doing nowadays. But until then...stay local.
And stay classy, San Diego.
