Thanks! I've never been called "bombtastic" before. That's awesome. Also awesome is baking something for your new guy's birthday. That's the perfect gift for someone you've been dating for a short time. It's a way of sharing your interests with him, while also going after his heart via the stomach. Always a good plan.
I'm a huge fan of the handmade gift. My friend, who's a really great artist and animator, always makes short animated cards for his friend's birthdays. He sees it as both a way to flex his creative muscles and give his pals a gift that they can't get elsewhere. (Anyone can buy a gift card, after all.)
As for what else to get, I would say stick with the baked goods. Since it's early in the relationship, you don't want to overload him with gifts and put the pressure on. A card would be nice. If you do buy him something else, keep it small. Maybe a DVD of a movie you guys watched together, or a CD of that band you told him about. Something that says, "I saw this and it made me think of you. Now let's make out."
But, seriously, I love the baking idea. It's a sweet gift that lets you share your interests with him. (And you get to enjoy it together-- it's not just something he's going to put on a shelf and never use.) He's a lucky guy!

Aww!! That was a sweet response.
I once made a guy a rustic notebook in my binding course. The covers had his favourite colours and I used special sheets of paper so he could sketch as he loves to draw... He loved it and uses it all the time (while thinking of me!!)
