Too long for what? Wait -- we are talking about hair on your head, right?
This is an odd question -- that's not a put-down, just an observation -- and it makes me wonder if someone told you that your hair was too long. I don't know your situation, but I know that certain cultures and religions like to dictate hair length for women. Or maybe it was your parents or even the guy you are dating. Or maybe it was no one at all, and you're just wondering.
Regardless, my answer is the same: your hair is too long only if you think it is too long. It's your hair; wear it the way that makes you happy. If you want a crew cut, go for it. If you want it to drag behind you like a wedding gown, knock yourself out. (Just don't get it caught in an elevator.) Your hair, your prerogative.
If you're concerned about guys liking it, some will, some won't, whether it's short or long or in-between. There's no pleasing everyone. So please yourself.
The only situation that might be tricky is if you're under 18 and living at home, and your parents, for whatever reason, don't like your long hair. I still think you should be able to wear it how you want, but parents love to pull out the "my house, my rules" bit. You'll have to hash it out with them. Every situation is different.
Still, I'm with the wise man who said, "It's your thing, do what you want to do."

Every time I said I was getting my hair cut and there was a guy around they flipped out. The thought of me cutting my hair seemed to disturb them a great deal until I told them it was just a trim, then they calmed down. So I would say that guys like long hair. Mine was down to my waist at one point and they all loved it.
Some do, some don't. I have friends who like only short hair on women, others who like it long. I don't really have a preference, except maybe the afro. I love a woman with a big, tight 'fro. Think Barbra Streisand, circa 1978.
My hair was down to my waist at one point. When it was down I caused a few traffic accident.
I like it either real long, or real short. JM's hair was almost to her waist when we dated. She had me trim it, once. I was scared, but it came out ok.
Then she cut it real short after we broke up. heh.
You dated Johnny Mathis?
LOLOLOL
Hah! Perhaps I should have used JML.
You date the Journal of Mathematical Logic?
I agree.....It's ok to wear your hair a certain way if that is what your guy likes, but when it comes right down to it, its your hair and you should do what you want. I personally think that really long is ok as long as you keep the ends trimmed and healthy. Hair looks dull and dry if you never get it trimmed.
PS...Cary I love your responses to people's questions! Now will you please answer some of mine? :)
Frank ! I call my boyfriend JM!
To comment on the question, he likes my hair however it is (either that or he's indifferent, but doesn't want to be rude =P). I've had super short, to shaggy short, to halfway down my back.
"Cousin It" tag? XD
I'm not an expert in this area, but I'm pretty sure there aren't human beings who are into Cousin I---ACK! I just got hit by rule 34 of the internet!
Just kidding. Maybe I didn't look thoroughly enough, but there doesn't *seem* to be Cousin It porn, though I did find this rather hilarious de-motivational poster depicting someone's hidden porn folder: http://www.motifake.com/image/demotivational-poster/small/0812/cousin-sal-the-diabetic-vampire-porn-demotivational-poster-1229220706.jpg
I had long hair my whole life (yes born with freaky long hair..ok not really) and this year I finally cut it. It has always been between the small of my back or below my shoulders and since I'm tall that's pretty long. I cut a lot of it off this summer, to just below my ears. I was starting to feel like I would be one of those women who is so attached to their hair they have no other real identity OR they bawl when it's time to get it cut.
I'm happy I cut it and will probably take more risks with it in the future. My then boyfriend was quite against me cutting it so I saved the braid for him, which seemed to help. I know it sounds creepy but think Jane Austen and how Victorian men asked for snippets of women's hair. Not so creepy, now I'm just out of date.
You can't please everyone with your hair length so it's best to please yourself.
I prefer my hair long, don't care what the guy thinks in this instance, it's not on his head! Plus my sister says i have the most amazing greek goddess hair when I wake up in the morning and that if I cut it short again she will hide my body where no one will find it so she can harvest my hair now and then
I could have asked this same question! I tend to grow it out (few inches below shoulders), cut it to chin length, grow it out again... now I'm at the point where I am debating if I should get it cut super short, or just chin length & have it curly, or just go in and have the layers re-done/trimmed and keep it long... hmmm hmmm.
In my experience, some guys like short hair, (my sister says anyhow..) some don't care, but I think more men like long hair than short. At least the men who are vocal about hair like long hair. Maybe the ones who like short hair are too shy.
i love to change my hair and my image all the time. i used to date this guy that thought just because "i was his girl" gave him the right to dictate what i could do with by body (including dieting, peircings, and hair cuts). so one day i told him i wanted to get a hair cut and maybe some highlights, and he said no. he told me flat out not to do it....so i dumped his ass and got a mohawk, and it was freaking awsome. he was a pig. and by the way. guys were pretty indifferent to me with long hair..after i got my mohawk guys followed me around like a godess in human form.
Well, I have very long hair, halfway down my thighs, where I think it's going to top out (bottom out?) at, just because if I try to go longer the ends want to get all ratty and who wants that? Do what you want to do, but past a certain point you'll find that braiding your hair to go to bed for any reason is essential. My boyfriend was an instant expert at getting tangled in the stuff without seeming to have moved a millimeter. Whenever I do cut it, it'll be about shoulder length, I think, and everyone I know will mob me (OH-MY-GOD-WHAT-HAVE-YOU-DONE?!). Just don't start up with me about Locks of Love; I've done my research.
I have to say that for the last couple of hours i have been hooked by the impressive articles on this site. Keep up the good work.
