Homewrecker puts all the blame on the woman. Obviously it's a bad decision to go after this guy, but he sounds like scum, trying to cheat on his wife. I don't like any phrase or term that downplays the culpability of the married individual doing the cheating.
In this situation the original poster indicates she is aware that department store hugger is married.
I don't think Chrissie's intention was to excuse the guy from blame, but in the context of the original post, she responded to home-wrecking behavior on the asker's part.

yep, thanks for the backup Jan. as i said, "homewrecker was coined for PEOPLE that act on the thoughts that you are tossing around" i did not excuse the husband or his culpability, or define a homewrecker as a woman only. he is acting on those thoughts as well and also a homewrecker. he absolutely sounds like scum. if you asked his wife, i am sure she would think that her husband, and all his department store huggees are homewrecker wannabes.
