Look, it's like this: eventually he's going to find out. The guilt is eating at you both, obviously. Either one of you is going to tell him, or one of you is going to tell somebody else who will tell him. So you may as well take control of the situation and own up.
Yes, it's going to be ugly. Yes, he's going to be hurt. And yes, you're going to feel bad. But for his sake, and for yours, this really is the best option.
