But for that matter, short hair is hot, too. So long as there's enough to grab, gently. I love necks -- slender, smooth, muscular necks. And they are accentuated by short hair cuts.
Don't take your husbands demands seriously. Hair is just not a deal-breaker for men. If it is, then your man is a superficial weenus. Many men have preferences, but they are also creatures of habit. He might not initially like the change, but he will learn to love it. First of all, it sounds like you just need to shake things up. A different haircut will probably make you feel, move, and act sexier. And when that happens, your man will learn. He will experience the trickle-down effect of letting your woman express herself fully, without the controlling commentary or empty threats.
He will benefit from your new hairstyle. If he persists in being a hair nazi, look him straight in the eye and be all "I'm going to kick you in the rocks if you mention that again."

I'm inclined to agree with RP here. This to me seems to be one of those "better to be forgiveness, then ask permission" kind of situations. Not that I'm one to promote marital strife causing, but sheez, it's not like your trying to put on 100 lbs or get breast surgery, it's your hair. Like the saying goes, "the difference between a good hair cut and a bad one is 7 days."

If you have very long hair that your willing to get rid of, maybe donate to locks of love. That would be beneficial to not only you , but to someone in need. Hair is just hair, it grows back. And who says you have to go full out here? You could go medium length, that would be a nice healthy change.
As for this husband of yours... Tell him to go comb his ass hairs, if he's feeling that sentimental about hair.

I think the poster's hubby has a huge problem. I mean, it's HER hair. We all have our preferences, but I really don't believe in controlling what our gfs/bfs do with their appearance (ok, unless it's a formal event and they want to turn up in pjs. extreme cases like that). I bet if she asked him to change his haircut or something he would be totally unhappy. Besides, what we love is the person, not his/her hair specifically. We could all lose our hair as we grow older anyway.
I had a boyfriend like this a long time ago. My hair was down to my waist, and when I wanted to cut it, he freaked out and told me that if I cut it, we were over. It turned out that he thought I was going to get some butch haircut, where all I wanted to do was go to shoulder-length.
Talk to your husband, and tell him what you want to do. Chances are if you have long hair, you're not going to want an extremely short pixie cut. That's just too much of a change. Probably you're just wanting some layers or something different, not a buzz cut. I bet you anything that once he knows what you want to do, he'll get off your case.
That said, if you DO want to go pixie-short and he is douche enough to leave you over something so material, then kick his ass to the curb and find a real man (like JDV) who won't care what his girl does with her mane.

there are lots of things wives need to discuss with their husbands before doing (and vice versa of course!), but going from 1 normal hairstyle to another is NOT one of them.
i could see maybe if you wanted to go from long hair to neon pink mullet, but it sound like you just want an average, but different for you, style.
don't even bother telling him to kick rocks. just get it done. if he has a problem, tell him you take issue with many aspects of his appearance, but you manage to suffer through.
PS-in my opinion, telling you he'll leave you over hair is not a compliment, not even a "special" one. it's his lame way of being possessive or scared you look so good that you'll start getting more attention.
