I heard about this. Pepsi has indeed pulled the app amid widespread criticism. Basically, "Amp Up Before You Score" was an iPhone app that offered guys terrible pick-up lines to use on different female stereotypes like the "cougar" and the "foreign exchange student." (Apparently whoever made this app learned everything they know about women from the movie Better Off Dead.)
Here are just a few of the 24 "types" found on the app:
Bookworm
Out-Of-Your-League Girl
Women's Studies Major
Twins
How are twins a "type"? And wouldn't that technically require two pick-up lines? Also, let's be honest--if you need to use this app, pretty much every "girl" is out of your league. Though this line, for how to pick up a "nerd," has to be my favorite:

"Wasn't I in Space Academy with you?"
Do you mean Starfleet Academy? Or Space Camp? Because there is no such thing as "Space Academy." At least get your stereotypes right, bro-app.
Unsurprisingly, the app was being used to market Amp, the foul-tasting Pepsi energy drink line with "edgy" focus-group-approved names like "Overdrive" and "Traction." (It's the energy drink so powerful, it'll make you beg for universal health care.) There was also a "brag list" function for the app, which allowed losers, er, users to add women to a list to be shared on Facebook and Twitter (presumably along with a plug for Amp).
I would hope that no one would seriously need an app to feed them pick-up lines like some sort of "Cyrano de Doucherac." But, sadly, there is a market for this sort of thing, thanks to the continued popularity of "The Game" and its goofy hat-wearing founder Mystery. (Not to be confused with our own Mystery Man, who sports a quite stylish hat.) Followers of "The Game" are big on "negging" (basically getting a woman to sleep with you through constant insults), and would probably go for an app that shows you how to pick up a "rebound girl" by providing maps to local ice cream shops.
If nothing else, the app is helpful for separating guys into two distinct types: Those who think it's offensive and unfunny, and those who you should avoid at all costs.
Wow. This post was pretty hilarious, and terrifying. The resources some boys rely on for "help" is just plain outrageous.
