I don't think you should be walking down this road until your child's teacher is no longer your child's teacher.
Teachers are usually incredibly nice, empathetic people that are great with children and have a pension plan. That makes teachers quite a catch. So, I think that you should, eventually, try to find out if he likes you. But not right now. That would be very, very weird and could potentially put your child in a really tough place. You'd essentially have to date him in secret to avoid answering questions from your child (if he/she is old enough) or your fellow class mothers.
Give it a year, or two years, or however long it takes before your son or daughter moves on. If you're still carrying the torch then, ask him out. But until then, just let him teach your child.

UH, the other question is: is he single? Lots of male teachers are taken aka MARRIED. The OP may have the hots for this guy, but she needs to find out if hes single or not...because if hes taken, honey....go get yourself a single man. Why the hell would you pursue a taken man? Do not be a home-wrecker...just saying.
Yeah this would put your kid in a very awkward position and you will have to answer lots of questions, MM is right. Have you considered that maybe the teacher is just being nice to you and you're thinking about taking it too far?
If he wanted to have something with you, he would have made a move already. Is he like that just with you or with other moms too? I think dating one of your children's teacher brings up a lot more disadvantages than advantages. Let's say you guys date for a while and it doesn't work... Have you thought about it? Wouldn't it be awkward to go to school for parents meetings & see him there? I don't know, I'd suggest you just leave it at that and if it's meant to be, it will be when the time is right. Not now.
