Ah, the infamous dilemma of guyspeak. I'd wager that comments like this are the VERY reason sites like this one exist in the first place.

Your boyfriend is probably not a bad guy, he's just an idiot when it comes to communicating and saying things to assuage any insecurities you may have. And to take it a step further, in his own way, he was attempting to let you know just how secure you are in your current relationship.

Albeit clumsily, stupidly, and arrogantly. But he was basically saying that he loves you.

Now, to the statement itself. When he said, "I never go after hot girls", he was trying to let you know that though he could, he isn't even paying attention to women that would typically considered to be hot or anything. He's happy with you and you're the only hot girl he needs.

The part that's insulting to you is what's been pissing off women since Adam and Eve were hanging out at Olive Garden. You see, in his mind, it's assumed that you KNOW he thinks your hot. Why else would he be with you. Men are visual creatures and we prefer not to date swampdonkies. So to him, there is an understood statement, though invisible, that says, "I don't pay them any mind because I have you, now go get naked."

But since you're a chick, you want to HEAR that. What you did was insert yourself into a comment that had nothing to do with you. He was speaking generally to let you know that like Prudential, peace of mind comes with every piece of the rock...and let's pretend his name is Rock.
