He contradicts himself a fair bit, doesn't he. OK, my take on it?
If you got it, flaunt it. Sure, if you look good we are going to check you out, that is a given, and to some people, like Mr. Grimaldi, a sin. Side note - if you gals are dressed sexy and feeling good and confident, please stop getting annoyed if we guys check you out. You may as well ask us to stop breathing as to stop looking. As long as it isn't done in a creepy way, take it as the compliment it is.
Dude, control yourself. Not others. If you think a pretty gal is gonna give you sinful thoughts, you avert your eyes and stop bugging the ladies and us guys who enjoy a little beauty in our day. As Galatians 6:5 says, "For each will have to bear his own load."
Now, I am gonna be generous and state that he is really just a kid. Not yet learned that most gals, when they dress up, dress up for themselves, not really for us guys. I am also gonna call him the type of intolerant, "my way or the highway" type jerk that gives religion a very bad name indeed.
The section he wrote to guys - chop off the last three sentences, and I will agree with it totally. Those last three sentences though, make me cringe. They are wrong on so many levels I am not sure where to begin. If men can't control themselves at the sight of boobs (we can't) how are they supposed to control the Earth? Also, stewardship of the Earth is mentioned plenty of times, control - not so much.
So, in summary - yeah. Chauvinist blinded by religion is a pretty fair description.
I don't know, I didn't read the 1st part to women as "wear a potato sack or else you were asking for it." It seemed like an honest call for women to be more mindful of what they're wearing and to be more "modest". The problem is that everyone's modesty looks a little different.
I think he definitely clarified that with the 2nd part to men where he doesn't let them make that excuse of "well look at what she was wearing!"
At the end of the day, he's saying what he believes. Do you have to believe it? No. Does what he's said mean he wants everything to go back to the way it was when women stayed home with the kids and the men brought home the bacon? Possibly. But you're making assumptions when you read that into this particular statement, and, as my dad always said, to assume just makes an ass of u and me. ;)
I actually agree with you, vicatella. I read it and taking away all the religious b.s. he spouts, I actually agree with what he says about how women dress.
"When did being a beautiful girl become dressing with the least amount of clothes on? When did what you wear become a competition?"
I actually agree with that. Beautiful does not mean skanky and unclothed, but unfortunately many women think that the "if you got it, flaunt it" means let it all hang out.
For me, it pretty much comes down to two parts. One: I agree with his general idea of dressing attractively and not skankily. Two: I am offended by his religious views, but they're just that. His religious views are his own and if I don't like them, I can ignore them. The more attention he gets, the worse he'll get. Let him rave about what he thinks like everyone else does in their blogs, their Twitter, even on the comments here. It doesn't hurt anyone.
Lol, Oh man, religious kids right? They are the most amusing ones.
He needs an atheist to smack some sense into them, but he does have a really good point, women these days do dress toooooo provocatively. But that doesnt justify men being dogs.
But the human body is just a human body. Nudity is not a big deal, or skin for that matter. Just make sure Ladies, that you will get the attention you ask for by how you dress.
How funny that I should read this article...I was on the way home from work today wearing a knee length skirt and a shirt that came up to my neck and down to my wrists. I got ogled at on the street, two teenage boys on bikes rode past me - one of whom grabbed my ass and some idiot on the tube called me something derogatory and asked me for my number whilst sniggering dirtily at his friend. Now had I been wearing something figure hugging or skin revealing then I guess this kind of attention would be somewhat semi warranted...ISH. Mostly I am of the belief that just because I choose to wear shorts when its a blazing 30 degrees outside- its's not an invitation for every man and his dog to harass me. Anyway - it just goes to show that no matter what your wearing - there are certain guys out there who will always treat you like piece of meat. And all I can say is - you have to be prepared. As for that kid on the bike - well he didn't stay on it for long.
I wouldn't be too upset about this, actually. I go to a doctor for medical advice, a lawyer for legal counsel. However, I don't ask aspiring professional hockey players for post modern feminist opinions. Was the guy boneheaded and arguably wrong? Probably. But there's nothing that says we have to listen to him.
I think this waste of male skin should move to the Middle East and find a perfect religious match to his attitude there.
Keep shopping, because there ARE men who can control themselves and don't have to quote religious crap to hide their shortcomings.
I personally believe that you should say your beliefs (if you chose to share them) and leave it at that. Unless your a recognized religious leader (like a priest) you should not dictate to other people. Why, because it only cause people to get upset and you probably won't change their mind anyway. Also long as you mean what you say and how you act is in accordance to your beliefs it's all good. Show your faith, walk the walk, and live what you believe.
Also I really like how one of the tags is:
"I want whatever this guy is smoking" XD
