Not usually. It means he trusts you enough to ask your advice. Was it a work question, a personal question or him asking you to help him with lingerie advice for his smokin' hot girlfriend?

Guys rarely have a motive behind simple actions. I've learned this.

This is EXACTLY right.
Women (and we ALL do it) read too much into things. Maybe we like to escape into our own little world where the guy wants the same things as us, and is probably cleaner and better at communicating.
I'm pretty sure, a guy asks your opinion, he wants just that... thats said, there's always a maybe (which give every woman hope that "she" is the exception (eg: He's just not that into you etc). Maybe he want's to know what you think because "he likes you"... and then she goes on a roller coaster of a imagination "he-really-is-in-love-with-me" trip and then she gets a bit disappointed after all he wanted was a female point of view.
