What Does It Mean When A Guy Says He Got Baked?

Baked means stoned. High on weed. Marijuana, cannabis -- pot.
Often, it's used by the younger set, teenage to mid 20s.

Though you'll also here career hippies use it, such as:
"Bro, I been getting baked since Europe '72 (Grateful Dead 1972 tour) and I've never once gotten a cold, so - don't believe everything you read."

Or, parents accusing their teen of getting high:
"If I pick you up from the party tonight and I get even the slightest suspicion that you're baked, you're in big trouble, mister."

Baked also implies, not just a mere buzz or sort of high, but full on... baked. Toasted. Zonked, Stoned to the max. Red eyed and lifted. People like using the term baked to imply that they have smoked a ton of weed and are now rendered... mellowly incapacitated.

Such as:

"I'm too baked to get up."
"I was too baked to notice."
"We just sat around and got baked."
"We were baked so the cold didn't bother us."
"We should get baked and watch a South Park marathon."
"I haven't been this baked since we ate those mushrooms last semester."

In any case, I don't encourage you to get baked, per se, but, if you happen to smoke and consequently get baked, you can now confidently identify your state as such and use the term with authority. Unless, of course, you're too baked to effectively think or talk.

When a guy says he got baked, he really meant to say he is a loser.

Not all guys who smoke week are losers. I know many successful and productive people who smoke almost everyday. Smoking doesn't make you a loser, sitting on your couch with no job and no motivation/goals makes you a loser.

My ex-husband drank every day, was successful & productive in the business world. Of course he didn’t drink before going to work, but did when he got off. He may not have seen it at the time, but what he did was unhealthy & counterproductive to our lives. Did I mention everyone thought he was a great guy too? Alcohol is a legal substance in the states, unlike weed.

Marijuana smokers are 41% more likely to develop the symptoms of anxiety, depression, suicidal tendencies, hallucinations, and delusions than those who do not smoke. It is also detrimental to a person’s lungs. (Goggle it) I’m sure it could be argued both ways that it doesn’t hurt the people around you…, unless you are one of them. I'm voting loser.

Perhaps many of the the 41 % you speak of are actually using it to quiet the anxiety they already feel. Data like that are very hard to scientifically gather. This might be why drug awareness info states that studies "show" rather than studies "prove". In medicine this is a very important distinction.

I might sound like an advocate for weed, which I am definitely not. I dislike it when people are stoned or drunk. Perhaps my job exposure to pot smokers has given me a different prospective on this demographic.

I can't argue that weed is bad for people or that it causes social ills, however I totally disagree that because a person smokes weed they are a loser. Perhaps the problem can be treated using a different approach.

Plus, you are comparing weed and alcohol abuse. Two very different substances.

I specialized in drug & narcotics when I was a police officer & I used the term appropriately. It is illegal to smoke weed in the USA, thus you are a loser. Period. People who abuse a substance are forever trying to justify their actions. Don’t forget to put a pretty little bow on that box you live in while you are at it.

Silky, the little box I live in has been solidly built in part with the experiences of my nursing career, just as your box had been partly built with your experiences in law enforcement. Perhaps my experiences with my clients have caused me to see the shades of grey that don’t seem to exist in black and white law enforcement.

I am aware that it is illegal to smoke weed in the USA, and while I loathe drug and alcohol use I see shades of grey that allow me to perhaps empathize enough to notice that some who smoke weed are not necessarily losers, but rather needing direction to ease what hurts, whether physical or psych.

While my home life is sweet, and appreciate your offer of a bow, I don’t think there is a bow pretty enough to sweeten up the little box I work in. It can be pretty harsh at times. I hope my empathy can make life sweeter for some people who struggle.

I disagree. I don't smoke weed ever but I know people who do. In nursing I see some who use it daily to self medicate whatever ails them.

You might be surprised how productive some of these people are. Home owners, tax payers, leaders, coaches, teachers, and on and on. I wish there was something else that eased them, and sometimes there is, but not always, sometimes their chosen drug hinders their wellness.

I have to disagree as well, I'm not a loser because I smoke pot. I've worked long and hard to become the loser I am today, and I refuse to let anyone belittle my accomplishment simply because I smoked a joint after the fact.

Holy shit, people. You're lumping all weed users into the same category. There are occasional, casual enjoyers of weed (like myself) just like there are casual enjoyers of alcohol. Not everyone who has drinks on the weekends is an alcoholic, are they? Most of my friends smoke and/or drink, and we're all doing well at a good university and hold at least one job.

Sure, weed might be illegal, but if you ask me it would make about 10 times more sense to make alcohol illegal than weed. Not that I want that to happen, but think about it. What was the last time you heard of a high driver killing someone? Or overdosing on weed (impossible)? Alcohol is far more dangerous and detrimental, yet people want to crack down on and demonize weed just because it's illegal.

Plus, I could go on and on about the racial implications behind every single drug scare/movement in this country's history, but it would go over a lot of heads. Topics like this are why I'm glad to be a sociology major--a sociological perspective helps you to not generalize as much and look at everything as a shade of gray. There might be losers that sit around and smoke all day, but there are losers who sit around and DON'T smoke.

TL;DR: weed user =/= loser.
