Good question.
It really is a different strokes for different folks kind of thing, though. For instance, I'm a big no makeup guy. And for me it's mostly because I don't really like surprises.
And beneath the layers of foundation and cement usually lies a surprise. Face it (no pun intended) a lot of women do indeed look totally different once unmasked. I've actually not recognized somebody before because she wasn't wearing makeup. I do not need that in my life.
I think makeup should enhance your personal beauty, not be a second face you apply when you go out. Plus I hate when a chick hugs me and leaves part of her face on my shoulder. I hate shoulders with faces on them, but that could just be me.
Now, there are some guys who think that women should always wear makeup. I don't get that because at home I think you should be able to kick back and relax, and makeup seems like outdoor wear. Yet some men love it when their women always look dressed up and ready for action.
Me, not so much. I appreciate makeup most when I can't tell it's there and then I find out that you have on some. Then again, I'm into totally natural chicks anyway.
So I wrote all that to say, it depends on the guy. But I really do think that the best rule for makeup is: use it to enhance, not create.
Or even better, your face should match your neck. How about that.
It was written.
"Your face should match your neck"
abso-freakin-lutely
ick. I get grossed out just by thinking of always having a full face of foundation on. And I cannot say how many times I've spazzed out after seeing that creepy line of color difference between the jaw line and the neck. Gag.
The face/neck color difference was high school. Oh we girls were still figuring it all out. I don't bother with it. Makes my skin itch, my lips all dry and caky and my eyes burn. Not sexy.
Hi, y'all are hella frontin! Make up is a beautiful thang, don't front like it's ruining your lives.
Not everyone uses makeup, Asia...where have YOU been?
I will honestly not go out without black eyeliner, it's not a lot and I don't look like a gothic chick, but I just feel naked without it. I don't think I would change that for a fella, but yeah foundation... it's such a bother, I would think that more people don't bother with it than do. But I could be wrong!
Couldn't agree more!
Girls, rather than caking on makeup, PREVENT skin problems! Wear sunscreen, take your vitamins, drink plenty of water, don't eat crap, get your full eight hours of sleep every night, wash your face every day, and limit the amount of alcohol you drink. Also, even if you don't eat fish, pop a couple of omega-3 capsules daily. Omega-3 speeds up skin cell turnover, which means blemishes that crop up on your face will go away faster.
Meh sounds like too much work. Rather just slather on some face paint. lol
I totally concur! I wear mascara and thats about it. So it's nice to hear there are guys who prefer a more laid-back chick.
i always put makeup on when i go out but not alot. usually just a little foundation the same color as my skin tone, eyeshadow, eyeliner, and sometimes blush. but if i'm just at home i can't stand wearing make up. it bugs me. and if i hug a guy and get make up on his shirt i get really embarassed. ive only done that twice and i haven't put my makeup on like that since. i always go really light on the foundation now. but the second time it was raining and i hugged him and he was wearing a white shirt and my eyeliner and mascara was all over his shirt. i just about cried i felt so bad about it. i don't wear mascara anymore and i use waterproof eyeliner.
The face matching the neck comment is classic, LOL! I personally wear light powder the same color as my face. I don't really think it does anything but it makes me feel better. Other than that, a little lip gloss and my favorite scent and I'm out the door.
If we wanted to hook up with a clown, we'd hire one from the yellow pages and try our luck. When it comes to makeup, less is more.
Ugh! Too time consuming for me, that's more than enough of a deterrent...I never wear makeup, never will
You know what makes me want to puke? Girls who line they're eyes super black black. It's not smokey eyes, but a pure black arc on the lids. Did someone just punch you in the eye?? You look like a panda! Wipe it off please! A girl's best makeup friend should be mascara.
I only wear make-up if it's a really special occasion or if I'm on stage (but that's stage make-up, BIG difference). Its too time-consuming to put on every day, and I have enough problems randomly breaking out, I don't need make-up to clog my pores... ew.
I've always felt a bit weird for not liking makeup but this post makes me feel better! I don't own any cheek makeup (um, foundation, blush, whatever else goes on cheeks?), just mascara, and various "paints" for the eyes/eyebrows. I don't really know the names for everything.. I never bought makeup till the middle of college, and even then needed my roommate to help me. Now, I put it on maybe once a month, when I am going out. I like to put on mascara + a little dark "paint" (I don't know the difference between eyeliner, blush, and all the other sorts of paint we wear..) near the ends of my eyelids, before going out to a bar (lower lighting in bars so I like to highlight my features).. however I usually run out of time and don't put on any makeup. About one in four times I have enough time to apply a bit.
Oh, and I put on makeup before having passport photos, or something like that, taken.
i have to admit i do wear makeup although i cant stand it!! the only reason i wear it is because of uneven skin tone. i have dark patches here and there on my face. especially around my nose and either side of my mouth. i would truly only care to wear eye liner and mascara but because of uneven tones i have no choice. i am using skin lightner to hopefully even things out. id cherish the day when im done with it all.
..but at home chillaxing or around close friends and family, when im going to the gym or if im just making a quick dash to the store i am make-up free.
I only wear makeup for very special occasions (such as concerts, or some dates). I'm still young, I don't honestly need it yet. Ever noticed how old ladies wear about as much makeup as the teens making themselves up like racoons? If your young, what do you want to hide? I agree, enhance not create. If a guy can tell your wearing makeup, it's too much. I mean come on, do you want to look pretty, or plastic?
Interesting fact: makeup in Queen Elizabeth's day was basically all wax. When ladies put on makeup the pretty much were putting on a new face. It made sitting by a fire rather unfortunate, when their makeup could start to melt. I know it sounds crazy, but true. Does it occur to anyone else that over time, makeup has evolved to be less and less? From waxy masks to powdery accents...seems to me that maybe people are gradually realizing that who we are is really the best thing we can show anybody.
OH wow I didn't know that Emily, that's interesting! Yeah, I agree with you that we (as a culture) seem to wear less and less make up as the decades pass--I like it! Makes life simpler. Plus nice to spend time+money on the things that really count :-)
girls put that much on????
i would ask cause will im a younging!!!
girls put that much make up on???
u see i would ask cause will im a younging!!!=)
I think I look better without makeup. I'll put on eyeliner and some poppin gloss but other than that I'm not really into it.
I love make up. It makes me feel confident and confidence is sexy eh! I just started wearing it, until now when I did my own face I looked like a clown and or drag queen that's how I felt or even when I went to a professional for my prom I felt like a big clown. Bought every product in the game, but didn't stick to it. Anyway long story short I got my face done one time by my very talented make up artist friend and i looked like a person. This was about a month ago and I've been addicted ever since. I put it on now after following her great advice and BAMM confidence boost.
I don't care what guys say about the make up, because it makes me feel good. The only problem is the girls who apply it wrong, and wrong as in they don't know better and it probably hides their real face really well.
Wear the make up if it gives you confidence but I'll stress going to sephora or other make up selling places and have someone professionally help you. Tell them you want it to match and you want it to enhance your natural beauty, they should be able to tell you the colors that match your skin tone and such things. If it feels too heavy that your face feels in a cage, I dare say that it's done wrong!
This guy is right, nobody wants a face on their shoulder. And the people before are right too, take care of the skin beneath the mask and you won't even need the mask. Seriously it's fun, so read a book or something and do it right.
When I meet somenone I prefer that person knows me with very little or no make up at all. But as the relationship develops, I think you can surprise that person with diferent make up, depending on the ocasion, but also be able to hang out and relax with a washed face.
masks are for porn stars.
I would love to not wear makeup, and I agree that girls/ women should be and love themselves, however I don't feel I have the face to enjoy the makeup free luxury. Maybe it's just paranoia. Although I technically take a long time to do the makeup, it's pretty subtle, and always natural colors. Does the verdict change for girls who have constant blemishes here and there or a dull skin tone? Plus, I feel unkempt when I'm not properly cleaned and made up.
I have acne scars so foundation and powder are a must!! I hate it when people say "oh just go natural and wear tinted moisurizer!"...yeah right! That stuff would never hold up against my oily and acne scarred face!..oh and please don't say "but you should love the way you look!"...no one is turned on by acne scars! cover them up but don't cake them away!

I love make up. And the question posed seems almost irrelevant, because wearing make up (or not wearing it) is dictated by YOU, not the guy. I wear make up because it makes me feel good and if my skin is being dumb and breaking out, I have something to cover it up with. I also like wearing it, because it looking nice makes me feel good. Granted, if I have an 8am class (which I often do) I probably won't wear it at all. I let my mood dictate that. A man's feelings about the subject is a non-issue for me here, but then again, thats just me.
