What would you think if a girl you were interested in didn't have a Facebook? Red flag?

I'd think, "What year is this? 2003? Did I fall into a time vortex and end up in an era before Facebook? Are OutKast topping the charts with 'Hey Ya!'? Is everyone watching "The Hampster Dance" video on RealPlayer because YouTube isn't a thing yet? Do I have any Friendster requests? Boy, I can't wait to see Return of the King! I wonder how they'll wrap up Friends. Four more years of George W. Bush???"

Anyway, after I got over my initial shock and adjusted to the fact that I can't Facebook stalk her and see every time she changes her profile picture or have her show up in that annoying feed which tells me every "like," comment or Texas Hold 'em Poker request she makes, I would just look her up on one of the million other social networks available. And then I'd shrug it off and get to know her in the real world.

There's no law that saws everyone has to be on Facebook. (Not yet, at least...) If she's not into it, more power to her. In fact, I'd find it refreshing that she was an iconoclast who bucked trends and went her own way. As long as she wasn't a jerk about it and judged me for being on Facebook and collecting friends like Pokemon, then I wouldn't really care whether or not she had a profile. Plus, it might make dating smoother. As we've seen time and time again here, Facebook causes drama. It is definitely fun, and a great social networking tool. But I would never rule someone out or judge them for not being on it. Though if they were on Google+ and not Facebook, I'd probably give them grief.

Of course, all of you good people are on Facebook. That's why you should head over there right now and "like" our Facebook page.

Off topic, but Nick, your Facebook pic makes you look less nerdy and more hottie! Not that the pic here isn't good too, but the fb one is very nice!

Thank you!

A co-worker of mine doesn't have a fb, because she had a very difficult time with an ex who was stalking her (he ended up with a restraining order). She has since avoided any online profiles...

Just saying, there are lots of reasons people might choose to refrain from fb.

My best friend's wife (who is a good friend of mine in her own right) does have a facebook page because she doesn't really care to keep up with people from High School. She's built up a successful life for herself without it and never was that tight with anyone from High School or College, so why bother?

My current bf doesn't have a FB. I kinda like it. It gives us more to talk about and I don't have to be parinoid about him being overwelmed with the games, and songs, and random posts. not to mention the embarassing history that dates back to '07!

It's more fun getting to know him from him. not just from his page.

@Caitlin That's the reason why I don't have FB either.

It may seem odd to people I don't have FB but I have a reason not to. If someone really wanted to contact me they can text or phone. There's nothing i really miss about not having FB

Since hindsight is 20/20 I realize that one of my former relationships was already problem ridden (and headed for its eventual end) before Facebook, but Facebook only helped to create more problems than we had started out with. He'd often say he trusted me, but didn't trust my friends, so that's why he was constantly spying on me via Facebook. Every person I friended I got interrogated about -- everyone who wrote on my Wall was suspect, and everyone's Wall I wrote on suddenly became the next topic via text or dinner conversation. I'd finally had enough, blew up at him and told him I'd never given him reason to mistrust me. Even then - things didn't change; so when our relationship ended(for tons of reasons) I thought that'd be the end of things but it turned out be only the beginning of him cyberstalking me.

Fast forward to later that same year, and a new relationship. My ex pretty much knew everything that was developing between myself and the new man in my life because mutual friends of ours that were on Facebook kept him in the know even though I'd defriended him. I got so annoyed and disgusted with the emails that followed -- filled with questions, laments and threats that I figured keeping Facebook was more trouble than it was worth. So I got rid of it. Finally, some time this Spring I thought it was time to give it a shot again since everyone kept telling me that there were more privacy controls than ever available to users -- tried it again, and the drama followed once again. This time though -- I'm putting those privacy controls to good use and I'm keeping the usual round of suspects at bay.

My stepdad is old fashioned, he doesn't have a facebook page either, (Heck he didn't even want a computer in the house) but my parents got one not too long ago. Sorry I got off topic, I think it's refreshing to be able to talk to someone face to face to get to know them.

I'm curious to know what it would be a red flag of? That the person is a weirdo just because they don't like to read what their friends are eating that day or who likes what? Bah.
