why is it that some men dont know how to have a relationship?

The short answer? Nobody's taught them. Or women, either.

One of the big problems we have as a society is the fact that we're expected to just know how to do things like have a relationship. A lot of people assume that hormones will take over and do the job: my favorite piece of horribly wrong sex ed advice is from the '50s, which says if your daughter asks what being naughty is, to tell her she'll know when she gets caught.

If you don't have good role models, or people to ask, figuring out how dating and relationships work can be difficult on the best of days. The only way out of it is open communication: how's he going to know what he's doing wrong if nobody tells him?

Well said! I completely agree.

I'm tired of hearing that if a guy isn't doing certain things or acting in a certain way it automatically means he's "not that into you". There ARE some guys (and girls) out there who are literally clueless when it comes to relationships and dating and just need a little help a honest communication to get it together.

I finally came to this realization myself, having divorced parents at an early age I never saw how a relationship really functions, especially in public. In my own relationships this has led me to be reticent to bring my significant other around my friends and family. Something I finally realized I need to work on.

I agree with open communication. My first relationship, she didn't tell me ANYTHING so I just tended to assume I was in the right for everything (within common sense). Then at the end of it she said I was intolerable and told me she's been cheating on me. Sucks, man.

Now I have a new girlfriend and we have open communication. We're honest with each other and I've never felt better. We're both new at a serious relationship though as she's been in a few before but ended up getting cheated on/dumped. So it's a learning experience.

Great answer though.

This is another one of those "experience is what you get after you needed it" kinds of situations. I have no idea how to be in a relationship either, but I do know that you're not supposed to cheat and to follow the golden rule. Also, don't flirt in front of him and don't expect him to always pay. Hope that's good enough for the next *lucky* guy. lol.
