Because it's either a spectacularly high number or an extremely low one. If it's high, he's worried you'll think he's a man-whore like Warren Beatty. (12, 775 women? How is that even possible? He was probably barely standing between the years of 1969 and 1980.) But if it's a low number, he might be worried that you'll think he's inexperienced. Either way, he might not have sinister reasons for keeping his number from you. He might just be afraid of scaring you off.
There's no way it's a moderate number like, say, eight or nine. (I don't know your boyfriend's age, so that's an estimate.) Why would he keep a reasonable number from you? If he's not telling you, it's probably a very large or very small number.
Before you ask him again, think about why you want to know. If you're in a committed relationship, you should know for safety reasons. If not, you should be using condoms. Since he's your boyfriend, wanting to know at least a ballpark figure is reasonable. If you just want to know because you're curious, you might asking for trouble. He doesn't want to start a fight, something which revealing his number might cause.
Have you shared your number? If not, I have to call you black, pot. First thing you should do is tell him your number. Tell him you want to be totally open with each other and, most importantly, you are worried about STDs. If he cares about you, and intends the relationship to last, he'll share his number eventually.
And be prepared not to like the answer. Just know that he's your boyfriend now, but before he met you he had every right to go sowing his wild oats in whatever, uh, oat field would have him. And once you know the number, try not to dwell on it. It will only drive you crazy. This will be difficult, because once it's out there, you can't go back to the days of being blissfully ignorant and assuming that you were the only one to ever be the recipient of his sweet, sweet oats. (Admittedly I've taken this metaphor too far.) But he's with you now, and you either accept his past, or you dump him.
So ask wisely. And assume some ridiculous Warren Beatty-esque number. Then be pleasantly surprised when you find out he isn't in the triple digits.

lol I don't know but it's a very popular question but deep deep deeeeeep down we really don't want to know! I mean seriously, what would happen if he said "775" I'd go find the nearest doctor who can give me test results in say about 5 minutes. While I think its important to know this, because its just one of those things you need to know in a relationship, I think getting upset over what someone did before you even met them is ridiculous and unfair. And being upset over the fact that someones number is higher than yours is just silly.

This is one of those questions that I don't believe at all is something anyone needs to know. Seriously. Worried about STDs? Ask him to get tested. He could have STDs regardless of whether he's had sex with 5 women or 555 women, so what good does this information do anyone? It's personal, and it just complicates things where there might otherwise be no complications at all. I don't ask guys how many women they've slept with, and I don't tell them how many men I've slept with. It's not something anyone needs to know. If someone feels comfortable volunteering the information, then fine. But why make such a big deal about it?
I never tell anyone my number and I don't expect them to tell me. What are you going to learn by knowing his number or him knowing yours? Why don't you just focus on having fun, SAFE, sex. If you get to the point where you want to have unprotected sex, you both should get tested.
I personally don't see the point in asking really. I've been with my guy for 2 years, I've met a few of his ex's and yeah, I'm curious about how many other women he's slept with but think about this, do you really want to have to live with knowing how many other women came before you? I personally don't want to have to try to block that out when I'm with him. Maybe I'm just to jealous but much as I'm curious thats not something I'd ever ask.
i dont need to worrry about that, lol. im marrying my highschool sweetheart and our first time and last times are/will be eachother. he has kissed one other girl and i have kissed only two guys. we werent dating at the time so that doesnt bother me. but i would never be with a man that has slept with another woman. when you think about it its kind of weird having a guy in you when hes been in another woman. to me that is sacred and u shud save it for that one man you know you are going to spend the rest of your life with.
