Let him treat you. He wants to do something nice for you in front of his parents. Maybe it's important to him. Or maybe he feels guilty asking you to pay for a trip and concert involving his parents.
So if he's insistent, let him pay for it. Then, a week or two later, surprise him with a nice dinner or concert tickets or take him to a movie. Something that shows that you appreciate it, and want to reciprocate. But you're probably not going to win this battle, so let him treat you and have fun. It's okay. You're still an independent woman.
