That sounds too much like a date for it not to be a date. If it is happening in the future, good luck, because you're going out on a date. If it has already happened, congratulations because you just went out on a date.
Guys rarely go out with girls to "decent food places" out of pity or to be polite. They go to such places because they're interested. So do treat this thing as a date. If he says he wants to do it again, assume that it'll be for a second date.
Good luck, and don't overthink it.

"Don't over think it." The hardest yet most important thing! Have fun on your date! :)
LOL, if I was going to be polite to a woman, I would simply decline, not waste her time or mine, going on a date, yes MM is right this was or will be a date, that I know won't go anywhere. Life is too short for that. I'd never agree unless I thought there was a possibility of the date going somewhere.
He's interested in you, otherwise he wouldn't waste his time either.
Yes, this is confusing to us girls because as girls this something we would do. But am learning these days from my guy friends...guys would not waste their time. Wish ihad understood this when I was younger!
Right? It actually took me a while to figure out that I was, in fact, going on dates. The word "date" was never used! When guys wanted to date, they'd use the words "hang out", which I use with my girlfriends to grab coffee and gossip! Same word, totally different context.
I would have never figured it out had I not read this post... I guess I've been dating for a while with this "friend" then lol
Unless this guy is just a friend. I've gone to dinner with a guy, and he went because he is a friend, not because he is interested romantically. I don't think.
One dinner, fine. Several dinners, HE is interested and you're taking advantage.
