Zooey Deschanel or whatever her name is ANNOYS ME TO NO END on that show "New Girl" but everyone thinks it is the greatest show ever. I do not see how! The jokes and storyline SUCK and her acting is poor. What are your thoughts on the show?? Great or worst show ever??

I caught half an episode and realized it's not for me. I like Zooey Deschanel. She's cute, funny and has a pretty cool website. She also makes good music with the band She & Him. Her character on New Girl seems funny, but the show wasn't working for me. To be fair, I haven't seen all that much of it. People seem to like it. My girlfriend likes it. So maybe I should give it another try. But, yes, my initial reaction was similar to yours. Not bad, just not great. And there is too much good TV right now for me to invest in a show that is just okay.

But I'm a Zooey fan and I want her to succeed. Yeah, she's kind of one-note but it's a good note. She's great in All the Real Girls, a movie I highly recommend. I don't know if she's ever surpassed that role, but I like her whenever I see her in a movie or on TV. Wow, the Chic Geek likes Zooey Deschanel. Big shocker! What can I say? I am a guy. Did you hear that she split up from Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard? Sad face. Those two crazy kids were perfect for each other. They were the indie rock Ashton and Demi, except not annoying like Ashton and Demi.

Anyway, here are the shows I'm liking that are filling up my DVR right now:

-- Homeland  -- Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin are so good! Highly recommended if you have Showtime.

-- Revenge  -- OH MY GOD my girlfriend and I both love this show. It's like Law & Order plus Dallas. Some of you must be watching, right?

-- Walking Dead -- Despite some slow parts (the farm), I'm still enjoying it. They're finally getting back to adapting stuff from the comic, so I have high hopes for the rest of the season.

-- Once Upon a Time -- There is A LOT that annoys me about this show (the kid, for one thing), but also much that I like. I'm sticking with it for now. Plus, I've got a TV crush on Ginnifer Goodwin.

-- Dexter -- This isn't my favorite season (it's hard to top the John Lithgow season) but it's been good overall.

-- Beavis and Butt-head -- I grew up on this show, so it's fun to have it back. Now bring back Daria

-- Thundercats -- The new cartoon is really good!

-- Community -- Really hope it's not canceled.

And a bunch of other stuff I'm probably forgetting. Oh, and of course Bridezillas, My Fair Wedding, and Panama's Braxton Family Values recaps.

What about you? What shows are you watching?

How come Modern Family's not on the list????

I watch it. Like it. Also The Office. Just forgot it when I was thinking about newer shows like Revenge.

Have you ever seen Grimm comes on Fridays at 9 on NBC. I think it's pretty cool.

I saw one episode of The New Girl, and it is pretty terrible and unrealistic. I also think that it kind of is showing girls that boys with think you're cute if you're dumb and socially awkward. It already took me until I was in my 20s to realize I didn't need to dumb myself down for the right guy, but now these girls probably won't have many other friends either because they will believe having weird neuroses like Zooey on the show will make them likable. In fact, if you picked up that character and put her down in real life, she wouldn't have all that many friends. I, for one, wouldn't laugh and say, "Oh Zooey, you're so lovably weird." when she put a turkey in a dryer like she did on the most recent commercial I saw. Nope, I would wonder why I was wasting my time on someone so stupid and disconnected from reality. Also, I really liked this article:

I don't think she's playing dumb at all. She's awkward, certainly, but I know plenty of people who are socially awkward (myself included). Social awkwardness does not equate to "dumbing down" though it can sometimes appear that way. I think it's a fun show. Is it life altering? No. But neither are countless other popular television shows. Is it entertaining? In my opinion, yes. Mostly because I actually DO some of the things that she's made her "quirks". I have never tried to thaw a turkey in the dryer, but I do sing to myself about things that are going on (not usually loud enough for anyone else to hear). I'm surprised at the level of dislike for this show considering there are far worse shows out there that seem to be just as, if not more, popular.

So... Putting a turkey in a dryer isn't dumb, it's just a "quirk." You sure about that? Sounds like something one would have to be pretty dumb to do, in my opinion.

I just find every character Zooey has ever played to be unbearably one-dimensional. The character she plays on The New Girl can barely function in normal society. She's not someone I would want my daughter to see and think, "I want to be like her." Unfortunately though, that's who she is for a lot of people.

I'm not a huge Zooey Deschanel fan- her singing voice drives me NUTS and I'm not a fan of the whole quirky and ironic movement- but I like this show a lot. In a world where sitcom humour is dominated almost ENTIRELY by goofball "somehow they manage" big loaf guys who somehow have a hottie wife even though they make stupid mistake after another- I find it refreshing to see the weird, un believable and "somehow they manage" character be a girl. Girls don't get to be off the wall goofy- they have to be somehow still intelligent and together and the only way they can be funny and not catch crap is to be neurotic, bitchy, dumb or sluts. They don't get to be loveable oafs. And I guess this is why- because the moment they do people freak out and critisize them.

Not sure why but I'm not the biggest Zooey fan either ! I have been meaning to catch her in All The Real Girls for a while now though...There's just something about her...she doesn't seem to be very warm..or warm at all? Sure she's mighty cute but so much serious wittiness doesn't make her all that likable in my books. Guys seem to all-around love her though which kind of boggles my mind!

Now, Everybody Loves Raymond or King of Queens, those are some of the worst shows ever. New Girl, I think is awesome. I know two girls in real life who are just like her, and it's great to see someone like that on TV. She does her own thing, has her own style, and as regards the 'dumb' put-down, in episode 11, she confronts a lady lawyer, saying so what if she dresses cute, it doesn't mean she isn't strong, or smart. I LOVE the show, I LOVE Zooey, and I love I love I love her singing voice!
