Reader Question time: Have any of you been watching the Casey Anthony trial? Why do you think we're so obsessed with this tragic case? And do you believe Casey is guilty?
Please leave your answers in the comments -- I'll compile them all later this week.
Yes! I really believe she is guilty. I became really suspicious after she made up the story about the "babysitter" where she left her daughter. Even more so since there was an actual person with that name and now her life is ruined because of this lie. I don't understand how anyone could harm a child.
I think she is guilty from the little I've seen of the trial.
What has really disgusted me about all of this is the public. I saw a news feature on the trial last week and they were showing hundreds of people rushing the courthouse as though it were a Black Friday sale trying to get seats. The whole time they were running they had euphoric smiles on their faces like they were racing for a prize. People are following it like it's a fictional television drama. This is reality. A little girl tragically lost her life. Their childish behavior is absolutely sickening! I just hope the case comes to a resolve soon so Caylee can finally rest in peace.
She's as guilty as they come. The trial is almost moot.
It's reality TV at it's darkest moments...
As you may know, this whole case took place in central florida...so I'm not sure if it is even more crazy for us living in Florida because we are literally in the middle of this circus.
I believe she is 100% guilty, and it's hard to disagree when all the facts are on the table. She has been lying from the beginning, and she has never acted like a mother with a missing child-please refer to all the evidence of her actions during that infamous 30 day period between her going missing and being reported missing.
Moreover, if her little girl actually drowned in the pool, why hide it and let everyone believe you are a killer if you are not? That is an accident, tragic, but still an accident, and it happens-it is forgivable. They still haven't explained why she was duct-taped, and why they are only coming forward with this now.
I can't wait til this circus is done and justice is served.
Absolutely guilty. WIth the defense always trying to get a mis-trial and then claiming this weekend that she's not fit to stand trial ... it just seems like they know that nobody us buying what is being sold by the defense.
My 100% honest thing is this: even if she DIDN'T do it, and someone really did kidnap the kid like she initially said, the is fact that when she was arrested she said she didn't report her missing because she was SCARED. Imagine the kid was kidnapped. How scared would that child have been? I'd be scared if my kid was missing for 30 seconds, let alone 30 days, but that fear would cause me to move mountains to find her. Casey Anthony is guilty for claiming she was scared but partied it up while her baby was supposedly missing. That alone makes her guilty IMO.
But alas, it's all moot, because she is guilty as sin. That pool story is a terrible coverup.
from what i can stomach watching from canada, i would say guilty as well. i have also followed some of dr phil's work on the case and am quite astonished that this didn't go to bench trial, how on earth did they get an "impartial" jury. i agree with what insanity said as well. and to find out the sordid disgusting layers where her own parents may or may not have been involved. nobody in that family deserves to be a parent as far as i am concerned, they are all crackerjack crazy. it's all bloody well disgusting and a travesty on the memory of this precious child. i'm of the opinion god knew what he was doing and put that blessed girl where he knew she would be "safest". i don't think she deserves the death penalty, she deserves a long painful life in prison with a whole heap of angry bitches who don't get to see their babies grow up either.
to answer your other question, carrie, why are we obsessed as a culture? i think there are a couple of reasons, but everybody's will be different. it's like the OJ Simpson trial in a way, though then we wanted to see a famous rich guy see justice served with a life in prison. there's the psychological instinct we all have to slow down when we pass car accidents, that's part of it too. we like to see the drama that goes down when other people are having a bad day. as a mom though, the reason i have followed what i can is that i think motherhood is a blessing. and one that a lot of people want and just don't get. and it's an offense to mothers to see other mothers take that blessing for granted and abuse the miracles that come their way, so when we see that as moms, we want to see them get justice for that. i want to see her rot in hell because i work my ass off every single goddamn day for my child, and would gladly welcome another even if it meant working twice as hard, because children are blessings to share with the world, not take away from. she took god's job from him and needs a very long painful period of accountability for that as far as i am concerned.
