In two days, the people of the United States are going to elect a President. And some Senators, and a few Congressmen too.Your friendly neighborhood Mystery Man strongly suggest that you all take part in this. Casting a vote is one of the most direct and deliberate ways to affect the political process, and not casting a vote is the most efficient way to silence yourself. Whatever your beliefs are, Tuesday is the time to express them.
If you're not sure where to go in your town to vote, go here and find out. And since I'm in an information sharing mood, here are some fun facts about elections in the U.S:
-In 2008, 64% of Americans voted in the presidential election. The highest voter turnout was Minnesota, with 75%, and the lowest was Utah with 53%.
-Both Richard Nixon (in 1972) and Ronald Reagan (in 1984) won, or "carried," 49 out of 50 states.
-Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and 24th president, having lost an election in between.
-Every President of the United States has been married, except for James Buchanan.
Speaking of important stuff that demands your participation, there's something very exciting happening next Sunday at noon (EST). On Guyspeak's Facebook page, your friendly neighborhood Mystery Man will be answering questions in real time! Right at noon, I'll put up a post and the hearty discourse will take place in the comments. Instant gratification.
So go vote on Tuesday, everybody, and then join me on Facebook on Sunday!
