With this week's announcement of the iPhone 5, what better time to look at the many helpful dating and relationship apps available today. As Vanilla Ice once said, if you have a problem, there's an app for that. (Or was it "Yo, I'll solve it?") But which app is right for you? Take a look at the five best apps for dating from around the Web. All are available on iPhone and Android and many are free! Now if only there was an app for explaining true love to robots. Then my (actual) android pal GuySpeakTron-5000 might finally understand why we can never be together...
5. Dating Ice Breakers - There are plenty of apps out there to help you keep the conversation and sparks flowing, Choose from various conversation topics in areas like "hobbies" and "values and goals," or get meta and make fun of the stuff the app suggests that you talk about. Nothing like breaking the ice by making fun of a cheesy dating app about breaking the ice!
4. Tingle - This saucy app apparently lets you talk on the phone and text with strangers without revealing your number. In the old days, these were called phone sex chatlines and they cost you $2 per minute. Now you just download a free app and hope the person you're talking to isn't a fake profile created by a porn site or scammer. What a world we live in!
3. Date Check - Want to make sure that guy you met online isn't planning on murdering you and wearing your skin later in the evening? Use this handy app to perform a quick background check on your date. The app also (tackily) has a "money" section so you can look up whether or not he actually owns the Ferrari he's posing in front of on Facebook.
2. Zoosk- There are tons of dating and hook-up apps out there (our pals at HowAboutWe even have one), but Zoosk has become one of the most popular. Like Blendr and other location-based apps, Zoosk helps you find people in your area for dates, hook-ups, bocce ball matches (what? someone is probably meeting up for bocce ball) and whatever else you're interested in. Also try Plenty of Fish, the stupidly spelled Skout and that old stand-by OK Cupid.
1. Date Escape - And, of course, if you need a quick bail on the date that just turned creepy/boring/douche-y, there's the app that sends you a fake call or text in the nick of time. Perfect for when your friends are busy and you need an instant excuse to get out of that awkward date, boring baby shower or distant relative's funeral.
Do you use any dating apps? Have they led to any dates? Which apps work best for you? Let us know!
