Two adorably nerdy videos are all the buzz on the Inter-web this week. Both will melt your heart-- and geek you out.
First up, is the Back to the Future-themed proposal which my pals over at Lemondrop altered me to. Basically, a guy named Corey Goldfeder rented out a local movie theater, paid the owner to put up fake signage for a Michael J. Fox retrospective, and brought his girlfriend to a screening of Back to the Future. But it wasn't just any screening, as the dude had inserted himself into the '80s classic and edited the footage so that it looks like he's bantering with Doc Brown about whether or not to propose to his girlfriend. Then onscreen Corey paused while real Corey popped the question in the theater. It's pretty awesome.
Check it out below.
Also, there's the whole public proposal thing. It used to be, if you wanted to propose to your girlfriend in public, you got on one knee at a crowded restaurant or--and I've never met anyone who actually did this--put her name on the Jumbotron during a sporting event. Now with the Internet, your proposal is available for the whole world to enjoy. I don't know about you guys, but the last thing I want to remember about the day I popped the question is some YouTube commenter posting that my video is "the lame."
Does this sort of thing-- while very thoughtful and adorable-- take anything away from a big, personal moment? Would you like to be proposed to this way?
While you ponder that, check out this Star Wars baby announcement video that has also been making the blog rounds. It is straight up adorable and very clever. Plus, it should answer a few questions about where babies come from for our younger readers.

Cute, right?? Corey met his new fianceé at a 1950s theme party while dressed as Marty McFly (which, technically, would make him a guy from the '80s stuck in the '50s, but whatever), so the Back to the Future stunt is actually pretty sweet.

Oh my god. I love the Star Wars one SO much hahaha. I'm a geek like that. ;) Plus, it was really well done.
The proposal one though? Ehhh. I could see it being sort of cute since it played on how they met and all, but to the average viewer, it's pretty lame.
As for public proposals in general? I'm not opposed, even for a contest, though it would be even better if the contest involved a prize he thought we would both love.
It wasn't made for the proposal contest. If you read the accesshollywood article, they've been married for close to a year - the contest was last week. It was just submitted to the contest.
Oh my gosh! The Star Wars thing was totally cute!!!
I would love to have a non-conformist geek propose to me this way, but then I'm a total superfreak in my own little way, too. Unfortunantly, geeks who know how to dress are hard to find; I'm not one for the geeks who think that plaid polos and pressed khakis are hip (unless they're super cute). I go more for the Robert Downey Jr. type geek with fedoras and suspenders and pin-stripe pants and cheap sunglasses. And he would have to know what my fave geeky movies are to pull this off.
Hey, this will never happen anyways, but it's fun to dream.
These videos are very cute and clever. However, I would hate it if my guy proposed to me like that. I rather he proposed in place where it's just the two of us. I want it to be OUR moment ONLY.
