Biggie Smalls, Janis Joplin and Funny Guy's pockets revealed. What was discovered and what it all means.

This week the FBI released documents and evidence in the Biggie Smalls murder. The upshot? They still don't know who killed him. The big reveal? The contents of his pocket at the time of the murder.

A few weeks ago a story circulated about the contents of Janis Joplin's pocketbook just weeks before her death.

And now, a little game.

Review the two (unmarked) lists of belongings. Which belongs to The Queen of Rock 'N' Roll? Which to The Notorious B.I.G.?

Answers on bottom of page.

ARTICLE A
Two movie stubs, a pack of cigarettes, an antique cigarette holder, several motel and hotel room keys, a box of Kleenex, a compact and various make up cases (in addition to a bunch of eyebrow pencils held together with a rubber band), an address book, dozens of bits of paper, business cards, match box covers with phone numbers written in near-legible barroom scrawls, guitar picks, a bottle of Southern Comfort (empty), a hip flask, an opened package of complimentary macadamia nuts from American Airlines, cassettes of Johnny Cash and Otis Redding, gum, sunglasses, credit cards, aspirin, assorted pens and a writing pad, a corkscrew, an alarm clock, a copy of Time, and two hefty books-Nancy Milford's biography of Zelda Fitzgerald and Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward, Angel.

ARTICLE B
Georgia driver's license, Pen, 0.91 grams of marijuana, Asthma inhaler, 3 Large Magnum condoms, miscellaneous papers.

It got me thinking, if I were to die from injecting 50% pure heroin into my hard rocking, bluesy veins, or, if my GMC Suburban were to be riddled with bullets right outside a Vibe Magazine event, what would be discovered in my pocket? What contents would be spread out and baggied for my loved ones to weep and blush over?

And more importantly: What would be revealed other than a few quarters and a quarter ounce of lint? Would there be clues to the way I lived? What I thought about and cared about? In other words, is a look into one's pockets or purses a powerful snap shot of who we are? After seeing what Biggie and Janis were toting it's hard to think otherwise.

Now, for those of you who feel this is too morbid an exercise, worry not, you needn't imagine yourself dead to play this game. Think of it as playing Capital One Freeze Tag: "What's in your wallet?" I'll go first.

ARTICLE C (Funny Guy)
14 dollars, a heart warming'dorky school picture of Miss Funny Guy from 8th grade, a Listerine pocket container holding 3 Ativan, NY State drivers license, Credit Card, QDoba Mexican Grill punch card,Health Insurance Card, three jokes scribbled on a post-it, a Barcelona Hotel key card from last year, a tiny crinkled pep talk/love note from Miss FG, 2cm plastic horse, a NYC Metro Pass and a Brooklyn barber shop business card.

OK, there it is. Revealing? Sure. Embarrassing? Eh, a bit, and I suppose not as flashy or pimpin' a stash as my predecessors. I will venture to say, yes this is a decent summation of me: in love, creative, not too rich, prone to anxiety, and totally awesome.

Ok, Readers, your turn: Empty those pockets and share the wealth.

A. Janis Joplin
B. Biggie Smalls

ummmm...ok. I don't carry a wallet, and only carry random change usually in my pockets (or maybe a rock or shell a child needs me to hold. - no pockets right now in my work uniform.)
So purse:
main pocket: empty coin purse, coupons, arcade tickets reciept (311!), empty panda express gift card, insurance cards for me and four chillins, debit card, time card, cost-co card, rite aid card, AAA, Zoo, Auto ins., multi-purpose tool w american flag on it, spare car key, random notes.
2nd pocket: too many reciepts to count, gum, photo-booth pics of me, chillins & my mom.
Side pocket: lipsticks, lipgloss, tooth brush.
Basically just like my life...TOO MUCH! But lots of good...
